PSA: Rather than abandoning Facebook, we recently learned that many don't know there's a toned-down way to use it. On both the desktop version and the app, FB has a selection item called FEEDS (on my Windows laptop, in FB, it's on the right side, below your profile pic). When you click on FEEDS, you'll see more options. Other than ALL, click on each feed and enjoy that section before moving on to the next section.

All the posts made in groups that you've joined will be shown under GROUPS.

Your friends' posts will show when you click on FRIENDS.

Posts by your favorites (such as my preferred news agencies or my favorite friends or pages) will show under FAVORITES.

Posts by the pages you've liked or followed will show under PAGES.

There will still be a few ads, but considerably fewer than on the default feed.

Of course, if you choose to follow fired-up pages and friends, then you're asking for the heated exchanges. There are ways to clean it up, if you desire, starting with unfollowing the ones that stir you up.
