Happy National Bison Day

On National Bison Day, we celebrate this majestic symbol of strength and resilience.

This magnificent animal joins the ranks of the bald eagle as the official symbol of our country — and much like the eagle, it’s a symbol of our American identity and one of the greatest conservation success stories of all time.

Since the late 19th century, Interior — in collaboration with Tribes, states and conservationists — has been the primary national conservation steward of the bison. Today, we manage:

🦬 11,000 bison
🦬 19 bison herds
🦬 on 4.6 million acres of public lands
🦬 in 12 states

And as a reminder: Do not pet the fluffy cow!

We've hard from many campers that etiquette classes are needed for newer campers. Hidden Lake Campground and Resort (Hot Springs) is doing a series on the matter, and here's their latest.

CAMPING ETIQUETTE FRIDAY 🏕🌲😳 Cutting through sites

This one, along with quiet time and dogs, is a BIG frustration with campers.

Boundaries are a big deal and when you go camping you go to get away from it all and that includes other people. The last thing you want to see are other campers in your space. When you rent a site you have a right to that space and should not have to share it with other people. It's your space, your area, and you have claimed it. Please be respectful of your fellow campers and please please please discuss this with your children! They run everywhere and take the quickest route even if that means running through someone else's area.

A lot of our camping etiquette posts come down to respect for your fellow campers. It's super easy to be a good camper if you just respect the people around you and the area you are in.

Our hearts are broken over the devastation left behind by Hurricane Helene. Many back east are in agony. With a mobile audience following our page, we thought we'd pass along some thoughts to consider if you have ANY plans for that region this year or next.

- Be patient.

- Be kind.

- Expect the worst and hope for the best.

- Lift them with kind thoughts and well wishes.

- With their entire life and business upended, and without roads and utilities, put their needs ahead of your own.

Feeling generous?? Surf the internet to figure out which businesses were wiped out. If you can access their online reservation system, book a night (or more) for the immediate future that you never plan to use, just to give them a boost, some human-kindness, and some upfront spending cash.

While the pic is true, with autumn's earlier sunsets and loads of stargazing the night sky, South Dakota is a CAMPING PARADISE!

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Sioux Falls, SD is expecting temps in the 80s through the weekend.

In the state's western mid-section, Belvidere East / Exit 170 KOA Journey will be ... CAN YOU BELIEVE IT ... 99 degrees on Thursday ‼️ and 97 on Sunday ‼️ and a bit more comfy in between.

The Buffalo Roundup in the Black Hills is in the upper 70s and into the 80s through the weekend (Sunday is set at 86!).

And in the eastern mid-section, Mitchell KOA Journey and Betts Campground are looking at temps in the UPPER 80s!

Hey folks, pull out those campers and go have FUN!
