Before visiting Africa, I told everyone my favorite animal was the giraffe (I mean, us long necks have to stick together). While in Africa, I discovered that my favorite animal is actually the lion! These majestic creatures stole my heart. So, with that in mind, allow me to share some of Marty’s lion photos with you.

Happy World Elephant Day! 🐘

To celebrate, we are featuring one of our favorite photos from our recent trip to Kenya. Capturing these gentle giants walking in front of Mount Kilimanjaro was incredible.

If you want to get up close to Africa’s elephants, there is no place better than Amboseli National Park. Amboseli is home to loads of elephants, including some of the last ‘big tuskers.’

Seeing the bond and watching these creatures in their natural environment will steal your heart for sure!

Our final morning game drive in Africa was such a treat. Not only did we get to walk with the lions, but we also witnessed several hyenas having their breakfast. Listen the him breaking those bones. Wow!!

Fall is one of our favorite times to visit Europe. Not only are the temperatures milder, but it is also far less crowded. This means you will find cheaper accommodation rates and enjoy a slower pace in the city. Last year, we visited Greece during this time and LOVED it. I checked an item off my bucket list by spending a few days in Santorini. This little slice of paradise was postcard-perfect! We advise spending a few days here if possible so you have time to explore everything to do!

On our final day in Africa, the giraffes met us at sunrise to bid us farewell. Our flight was scheduled around 10am, so we had plenty of time for a morning drive and bush breakfast, which proved to be a very successful morning (more to come).

Gross alert! Don’t read or watch if you don’t want to hear or see the circle of life in Africa.

Our morning drive with Gamewatchers Safaris & Porini Camps was very interesting. We came across lots of vultures and then noticed a hyena and a jackal in the midst of them. We knew immediately that they were feeding on something.

It turned out to be a baby giraffe. 🥺 Our guide, Justice, told us that giraffe mommas are not usually very good mommas. They tend to stray too far from their babies. While this was a sad situation, it is the circle of life.

Our first evening drive while visiting Gamewatchers Safaris & Porini Camps Porini Guraffe Camp rewarded us with a cheetah and a small pride of lions with cubs.

Sundowners are an honored safari tradition where you gather for snacks and drinks while watching the sun go down. I must admit, this was one of my favorite experiences! I think this is something we need to start doing in the states.

Our final camp in Africa was another Gamewatchers Safaris & Porini Camps, the Porini Giraffe Camp. I have to admit, getting to this camp was half the fun. Our driver and spotter, Justice and Ben, picked us up from the airport and let us know it would be about an hour to get to the camp.

Unfortunately, the spring floods had washed away one of the bridges into the area, so we had to take a longer route. We crossed the river and could see pieces of the bridge washed downstream before traveling through some of the small villages in the area. As we continued our journey, we went off-roading, climbing several hills and crossing a few more waterways before being greeted by the resident giraffes and arriving at camp. Definitely an adventure getting to this camp, and we loved every minute of it!

I’m curious, would you want to stay in a tent for a traditional safari experience or would you prefer more hotel-like accommodations? It’s important to note that the tents have en-suite bathrooms with a sink, a flush toilet, and a shower (these were bucket showers though as there isn’t any hot water). You also have solar powered electricity at night providing you lights in your tent.

We wrapped up our time at Porini Rhino Camp with several more awesome game drives, another visit to the blind overlooking the watering hole, and some great meals with friends. The memories made will never be forgotten, but we had to say farewell to hope a plane to our next destination, the Masai Mara. ❤️❤️❤️

Our second evening drive at Porini Rhino Camp allowed us to have our nightly sundowner (drinks and bites) with these two handsome fellows.

Our guides from Gamewatchers Safaris & Porini Camps, Dixon and John, told us these these young men had just recently been kicked out of the pride. He said this is the hardest time in their lives as their learn to hunt on their own and find their own pride.

I loved their little mowhawks where there mane was growing in and their sweet eyes. We sat with them for about an hour and enjoyed our cocktails and bites and they rested and contemplated life. lol
