We're taking you back to October 2023 on our trip to the Açores (Terceira & Sāo Miguel Islands)!

What an amazing place to visit - delicious food, kind people and beautiful scenery where you can be in completely different environments in a half-hour drive - from foggy mountain tops, to rainforest, to dramatic ocean scenes. We loved it!

Day 25/25

We’re already home but wanted to share our final days of adventure. From Queenstown, we headed north to Lake Tekapo and the Mt Cook national park. We then had a few days in Christchurch and headed for the long journey home to 🇨🇦

I was hoping to go stargazing in Lake Tekapo, which is part of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. The area houses The University of Canterbury Mount John Observatory (UCMJO) which is New Zealand's premier astronomical research observatory. Alas, the clouds did not allow for stargazing, but we did see the Milky Way in other locations ⭐️ 💫 🌟 🪐

Day 20/25

We’ve been busy! This post contains pics from our drive down the stunning West Coast, into glacier country, through the Southern Alps on Haast Pass, into Wānaka and into the Lake District of Queenstown. That’s almost 9 hours and 624 kms of hair raising drives.

Day 12/25

We’ve had some big adventures over the last couple of days. We were in Tongariro National Park where some LOTR scenes were filmed and which has dual World Heritage site status that recognizes the park’s important Māori cultural and spiritual associations as well as its outstanding volcanic features.

We (Bill ☺️) then drove to Wellington, the capital, had a quick overnight stay and then crossed Cook Strait into Marlborough Sounds which was just stunning.
