✨New post!✨

I'm so excited to share my review of Searching for Jimmy Page by Christy Alexander Hallberg. Set in 1988, the novel is about an 18-year-old girl who, in coming to terms with the su***de of her Led Zeppelin-obsessed mother, charts off to England to get answers about her father's identity. Could it be Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page?

You'll find out in the novel! Set for release on October 20th.

A special thanks to Christy Alexander Hallberg for giving me an advance copy of the novel in exchange for this review.

Enjoy!

I’ve been home for all of 24 hours and I already miss these Prince Edward Island sunsets 🌅

I almost didn’t catch this scene. Knowing that it was freezing out and I didn’t have much daylight left, I thought I’d just take a quick stroll down to the beach in Greenwich National Park sans camera. Little did I know the sky was about to put on a show and thus began a mad 20-minute jog to my car and back. I’m so glad I did that though — this was easily one of my favorite scenes.

When you have your phone in one hand and a wiggling crab in the other 🦀

Yesterday was such a treat on Prince Edward Island. I went deep sea fishing with Tranquility Cove Adventures and I caught SEVEN fish. Which isn’t a ton by yesterday’s standards but it was seven more than a typical day for me. They taught us all about how to find good crab and lobster, and we even grilled our catch right on board.

Have you ever gone deep sea fishing?

The road to Thunder Cove wasn’t an easy one. The narrow grassy paths were full of potholes and bumps, and by the time I got to the shore, there were signs everywhere that said no parking. The small village nearby very much felt like a summertime cottage retreat trying it’s best to keep this part of the island all to itself.

Though one of the most beautiful sites I’ve seen on Prince Edward Island so far, it really feels like an off the beaten path hidden gem. There are no signs, just a long beach and a few signs warning people of the dunes and tides.

I could have stayed here for hours, honestly. Have you ever been to Thunder Cove, PEI?

The cutest little village you ever did see. 🎣

As much as I loved hiking over the rocks at Peggy’s Cove, I loved exploring the little fishing village just as much. There are only about 30 residents that live here, and their homes are protected from Atlantic storms by all the rocks.

Plus, all the buildings are just so colourful. Kicks the burbs’ butt any day of the week.

Peggy’s Cove. 😍

I went on a guided day trip to Lunenburg and Peggy’s Cove today, and although I thought Lunenburg was super cute, I could have spent all day at Peggys Cove. Honestly… rocks, a lighthouse, and the ocean? Happy place. 🥰

Halifax, you beaut. 😍

It’s my first time in Nova Scotia and I get the hype. The boardwalk, the views, the lobster rolls, the architecture, the pub scene. Did I mention the lobster rolls….

Kinda makes me wonder why I live in the furthest place from the ocean as possible 🙃

Have you ever been to Nova Scotia?

Fun history facts about Nopiming Provincial Park: 🧐
• The park is largely covered in Precambrian rock that formed 2.5 billion years ago from a mountain range that would have been similar to the Rockies.
• It’s believed that the earliest inhabitants of the park were indigenous peoples who arrived here 8,000 years ago.
• In the 1930s there was a huge gold rush in the area which spawned a mining boom.

Did you know that there are multiple accommodation options in Nopiming Provincial Park? Though I stayed in a basic campsite surrounded by trees, birds, and critters that I don’t really want to think about, there are electrical campsites, lodges, and even yurts to be found. Something for everyone!

Thanks to for supporting me on this amazing trip to Nopiming Provincial Park!

When you think of Manitoba do you think of rushing waterfalls, forests, and crystal-clear lakes? Because that’s the dreamy landscape you’ll find at Tulabi Falls. ✨

A waterfall at the end of a quick 0.5km trail, the site includes a viewing deck, a beach, and jumping platforms (by the lake) for those who like a bit of an adrenaline rush.

Have you ever been to Tulabi Falls at Nopiming Provincial Park?

Things I learned while camping in Nopiming Provincial Park:
• Camping with no electricity or cell service is bliss 🌲
• Setting up a tent in the pouring rain is no fun ⛺️
• I can blow up two twin air mattresses with just my lungs and not pass out💪
• All food tastes gourmet when you’re in the woods 🌭

In the Anishinaabe language, the word Nopiming roughly translates to “Entrance to the Wilderness”.

The park is over 1,429 square kilometres in size, almost all of which is protected natural area. The park also features over 700 lakes and rivers that stretch on for hundreds of kilometres.

Though the area does have a few cell towers, this park is the perfect Manitoba destination to truly disconnect, unwind, and enjoy an off-the-grid experience.

It’s been a Manitoba road trip kind of summer, and camping in Nopiming Provincial Park this past weekend with my mom was the perfect way to cap off August. 🌲

Two and a half hours from Winnipeg, we loaded the car with our camping supplies on Friday and headed to Black Lake Campground — a relatively-primitive site in the heart of Nopiming. Two nights of camping in a tent, with no electricity, and nothing but the sounds of animals, miles of nature, and other campers to keep us entertained.

This photo was taken at Tulabi Falls — just a half hour drive from our campsite. The falls are beautiful being right between Tulabi and Bird lakes and surrounded by trees and rocks. Despite the campgrounds being full all weekend, we had the falls mostly to ourselves — it was such a serene location.
