This August is the month of our 10th year anniversary so will be extra magical! You can find me this Saturday 3rd August, 10am - 4pm at the Fabulous Kings Road St Leonards Market!
As it is coming up to our anniversary, here is a brief background story of Lumen Designs & Crafts.
I started in 2014 with a humble basket of hand-poured candles whilst going through a medical diagnosis and working full time. In 2015, after a diagnosis of Type 1 Narcolepsy with Cataplexy, I had to become my own boss. Like so many other traders, I fought through the lockdown which brought many fast-burn start-up businesses around us, I took the time to evaluate sustainability and reduced my plastic use within the business dramatically, changed our raw materials to become more eco-sustainable and even released a poetry book. At times, I went against a lot of financial pressure but I still ensured that ALL of my community workshops remain FREE and open to everyone, and to ensure that my main products are affordable, this is something that I am firmly committed to.
My inspirations have always come from my own personal interests and life. From an educational background in Cultural Anthropology with a personal interest and focus on Magic and ritual traditions, blended with my heritage of Guyanese, Anglo-Indian-Norwegian roots, you will find that every design has stemmed from an Anthropological mindset or embrace of culture.
In the early days of my business, I laid down the groundwork like little roots of a tree and with each passing year those little roots have grown deeper and spread wider, establishing a stronger base for my little enterprise to thrive. My motivation has always been to ensure a good future for my children and to feed back into the community in which we live in through free workshops and events. I hope to be able to fund more exciting ones for next year and have already some plans in the works.

We thought we would also post a reminder of a few things that may not be known:
* You can return your Lumen candle jars and lids for £2 off your next candle just bring them with you to our next stall.
* If you’ve bought one of our Forest Witch Headdresses (Antlers) within the year and it has become a bit too wobbly (the taller the branches this may happen due to weight and dancing etc) or broken, we are happy to repair for FREE just bring it to any of our stalls and we will repair on the spot. All of our headresses are made by us and we know which is our work, so no receipt needed.
* All of our designs are painstakingly hand drawn from the start and NOT A.I. We believe A.I has very useful purposes for many things but not within the Art Industry.

Dear friends and customers!
Many of you would have seen me pulling along my cart full of products to and from each market. Unfortunately, having a neurological condition can make this quite a struggle and it is now having an impact on ease of mobility.
We as a business are embarking on a journey to raise funds for a specially adapted electric tricycle which will provide a means of transportation that not only serves as a mode of mobility but also opens doors for independent living and meaningful engagement in daily family activities outside of the business.
This tricycle will not only serve as a tool of mobility but also keeping an eco-friendly solution for transporting our product to your doorsteps or local markets.
Each product you buy from us from now on either at our market stalls or online will contribute toward our goal of £2k.
We thank you for every single purchase be it our wax melts to our Art prints, it will all go toward the pot for our target! We hope to share the good news with you once we have reached our target however long it takes!
