Everyone should be familiar with Monty Don, a passionate gardener and dog lover...Some gardeners at the Chelsea Flower Show may balk at the idea of a dog scrabbling around near their prize roses.

But Monty Don is designing his first Chelsea garden for next year’s event – and making it dog-friendly. Clare Matterson, the director general of the RHS, said: “Over 2025, we really want to celebrate how we’re here for all gardeners – dog lovers, families, keen cooks, houseplant fanatics, everyone – and this garden is a great example of how individuals can all bring to life their passions in their outside spaces.”

I am reading the last printed issue of the United Airlines Hemispheres magazine. Sad to see it go as I always loved to read it on the plane. I started it when I moved to Panama in 2006 and over the course of the years have traveled more than 1 Million Miles just with United. That didn't count all the other airlines I have flown on over the course of my garden tours....I was surprised to see that they launched their first website in 2000, 4 years after we launched ICanGarden. We don't use United that much anymore as there are other airlines that run out of Panama with better time schedules for us....you can now read it online at

Canada'a Plant Hardiness Zones Map

On 2024-08-28 The Plant hardiness Zones map for Canada created in 1967 by Agriculture Canada scientists, was updated and modified
using plant survival data and a wide range of climatic variables,

The New Map

Natural Resources Canada’s Canadian Forest Service scientists have now updated the plant hardiness zones using the same variables and more recent climate data (1961-90). The new map indicates that there have been changes in the hardiness zones that are generally consistent with what is known about climate change. These changes are most pronounced in western Canada.

Interpreting the new map

The new hardiness map is divided into nine major zones: the harshest is 0 and the mildest is 8. Relatively few plants are suited to zone 0 a Subzones (e.g., 4a or 4b, 5a or 5b) are also noted in the map legend. These subzones are most familiar to Canadian gardeners.

Chelsea Flower Show & Gardens Tour 2025
May 19th – May 27th, 2025

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is still viewed as the most important event in the horticultural calendar and is as popular as ever. The new trends constantly appearing at the show illustrate the changing face of garden design and mark this country’s ever changing horticultural history.

Alongside the Show Gardens, Chelsea Flower Show 2025 will include Sanctuary Gardens, All About Plants gardens, and Balcony and Container Gardens, as well as non-judged Feature Gardens. The Balcony and Container Gardens are favourite categories – perfect for those with small outdoor spaces. There is also much on indoor gardening as well! As usual I will share some of my secrets for making the best use of your time here.
