So we completed our project repeating the route of the 1968 Vuelta a España (3136km - 30,228m) over the same 18 stages. What better way to give ‘chapeau’ to our captain Will than a Bilbao Athletic shirt… a great finish in a great city after a gruelling 2 1/2 weeks on the road raising awareness and funds for our charities…

Day 15 of the a bit of an easier day today in distance and altitude compared to yesterday so we took the opportunity to recover and enjoyed the amazing scenery and the best climb so far of the Puerto de Urbasa followed by what the parcours describes as a ‘descenso fuerte y virajes en 14kms’ and then continued to Pamplona…the hard days aren’t behind us yet and we’re close to 30k in donations… so thank you for all your support to keep us going for our charities:

Day 3 of the a long, hard, hot day in our Harrison’s Fund shirts, their goal is to get as much money as possible into the hands of the world's best researchers, who are working to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Day 1 of the 130km of beautiful riding-nice roads-friendly cyclists & courteous drivers… tested the legs and our puncture repair technique on the gravel sections 😊 some of the original 1968 route is now ‘no bike’ dual carriageway hence the off road alternates. Good to be on the road after all the preparation in support of some great charities:

OK… so it might be a case of ‘too little too late’ but I’ve come off the back of a ski touring season and I’m back on the bike and training 😊 can’t wait to be riding the Willta a España next week and raise money for some very worthy charities:

The winter season is well and truly finished and I’ve now switched skis for bike and ‘in training’ for the Willta a España… having cycled the 1968 Tour de France route in 2018 to celebrate Wills 50th birthday and raise nearly £100k for charity we are back - this time attempting the 1968 Tour of Spain - the Veulta a España.
The ‘68 TdF at 4651km and 56,125 metres of climbing over 24 days compares with the '68 Veulta course of 3136km and 30,228 metres of climbing over 18 days but with no rest days so a different sort of challenge.
We will actually be doing a few more kms than the riders back in 1968 as stage 15 was cut short when ETA blew up the road and the stage was abandoned!… Not long before departure… and we are fundraising again to support three charities with a focus on causes that have impacted Wills and many other families including a very local one in Hertfordshire: Cancer Research UK, Harrison’s Fund and Hertfordshire Young Homeless see link in the bio for more details and how to donate… if you would like to make a donation then thank you in advance… 🚴 🚴 🚴
