One Wellie Boot in Castlewellan Lake… can be claimed by contacting our centre… must bring match as proof of ownership!

Reassuring that all the litter we collected from the lake today has been there quite a while and just become visible with lower water levels.

More to come!

We tie lots of knots but yesterday’s was somewhat different and certainly more special!

A massive congrats to Anne & Stephen who tied the knot yesterday after a mere forty one years, six months and one day together.

For those that know Anne & Stephen, it’ll be no surprise that they met on a paddling trip… and the adventure hasn’t stopped yet.

Here’s to the next forty one years!

Don’t lick the green stuff! 🤢

Blue-green algae update;

The algae which is constantly (naturally) present in Castlewellan Lake and most waterways has become obvious over the past few days due to current weather conditions 😎

So, a few key points for Watersports; 💦

Not all blue-green algae blooms are toxic but you can’t tell if a bloom is toxic by looking at it 👀

If you see an algae bloom it is best to assume it is harmful and take the following precautions:

Avoid contact with the algae bloom, currently found in some of the lakes sheltered areas 👍

This includes swimming in the affected areas, due to the risk of ingesting the water 🏊🫢

Anyone who has come into contact with affected water should shower afterwards 🚿🧼

All kit which has come into contact with affected water should be cleaned thoroughly 🧽🪣

From first spotted, the algal bloom has already been dispersing but it is likely that it will potentially disappear and reappear as weather conditions dictate over the next few weeks 📉👌

*Dogs… as our four legged friends tend to spend their time around the edge of the lake, swimming & ingesting water, and where the concentration of algal bloom is at its highest, it’s best avoiding the lake for now 🐶

Dogs welcome! 🐶

With more of our 4 legged friends joining us on our adventures it’s important to realise that;

1. The environments in which we play are exceptionally sensitive, with livestock, wildlife and other users which can all be negatively impacted.

2. Our dogs are typically not experienced in those environments, and in addition to negatively impacting others, it’s often the pets themselves that are put at risk.

So please be a responsible dog owner and ensure your dog’s under control at all times 👍
