For those eager for adventure, the 8km Loop Walk Trail beginning and ending at Nature's Window provides an unforgettable gorge experience.

There are many different aspects to Fraser Island, but the awe-inspiring beauty of Lake McKenzie makes it probably the most visited natural site on the island. It is a ‘perched’ lake, which means it contains only rainwater, no groundwater, is not fed by streams and does not flow to the ocean. The sand and organic matter at the base of the lake form an impervious layer, preventing rainwater from draining away.

The sand here is pure, white silica and is not only beautiful to look at but feels beautifully soft to walk on. The sand acts as a filter, giving the water its clarity and helping to make the water so pure it can support very little life. The blues and greens of the lake are endlessly fascinating and it's well worth getting up early to look across it in the soft light of dawn.

There are great hikers camping facilities here and toilets and cold showers nearby.

Sticking out into the sea on Tasmania's mild east coast is the rugged and beautiful Freycinet Peninsula and National Park. The park is about 2.5 to 3 hours from either Hobart or Launceston.

Freycinet National Park offers a wide variety of activities. Take a walk to the pass overlooking the perfectly shaped Wineglass Bay, trek the entire length of the Freycinet Peninsula on an three day walk or try less strenuous activities like beach strolls, swimming or wildlife spotting.

WWOOF - What is it?

'Willing Workers On Organic Farms'.

WWOOF as an organisation are essentially a network made up of independent host families (usually on farms or in rural areas) all over Australia.

WWOOFing gives you the opportunity to work with these hosts, exchanging 4 - 6 hours work per day for your meals and accommodation, usually on the family property.

The work is unpaid so WWOOFing is often used as a stepping stone to explore a new part of Australia whilst spending literally ZERO on living expenses, during which time, most people look for paid work in the area. WWOOFing in itself can often be a great cultural experience!

To join you are required to pay one off fee of $70 - this gives you access the WWOOF app or alternatively a book can be sent out to your address with all of the hosts contact details, along with a brief description of the property and work.

Figure of Eight Pools is located in Sydney's Royal National Park, approximately 1.5 hours drive South of the CBD. The coastal rock shelf is dotted with spectacular natural rockpools – including this one in the shape of a figure eight. Don't under estimate the power of the ocean, the rocky platform is extremely hazardous and a visit to this popular spot is only possible at low tide and in flat surf conditions.
