Beryl touched land close to Tulum around 6am. Still gusty and rainy but I think the worst of it has passed here in Puerto Morelos. We lost power around 2am and still without but other than that we are safe. No damage!!! Only the pier looking a little more destroyed that before.

We have 8 apartments in total on our property. Each apartment has ample private space. All of the apartments are spacious and comfortable one bedroom (2 person occupancy).

We just stumbled upon a fantastic new Italian restaurant in Puerto Morelos Sabrina - Tradizioni Italiane . It’s where Osteria Barocca used to be (across from John Gray’s). We tried their pizza and pasta. Both delicious. The pastas are home made. They also have a beautiful display fridge of pastries. I want to try all of them. But I started with just one that the owner so graciously gave to us to try.

If you've been hearing fireworks and noticing groups of people parading through town with altars on their car, truck or bike (or body) it's for a very good reason.

December 12th, Día de Guadalupe, is one of Mexico’s most important religious events that also heralds the start of the holiday season in Mexico. This period lasts from today through January 6 - King's Day.

For a long time, Mexicans worshipped the Virgin of Guadalupe as the queen of Mexico, displaying her picture on flags during the Mexican Wars of Independence and the Mexican Revolution. The story of the virgin has become an important part of the country’s history and lore, as well as a vital cornerstone of the citizens’ Catholic faith.

As tradition has it, Juan Diego, living at the time of the Spanish conquest of Mexico, was visited by an apparition of the Virgin Mary on December 9, 1531. In his vision, he was told to build a giant church exactly where he stood. Today, this is where the Basilica of Guadalupe is located in Mexico City.

Despite being an important religious feast day, the Dia de la Virgen Guadalupe is also a festive and joyful holiday. While most people will spend at least a few hours in church, they will also set off fire crackers, march in parades and attend live musical performances.

Finally after 3 years our soursop tree (guanábana in Spanish) is growing its first fruit! I am so excited! Still waiting for the bananas, limes and mandarins. 🍌 🍊 🍋
