The East Atlanta Security Patrol (“EASP”) is an effort to enhance safety in East Atlanta. Specifically, off-duty Zone Six Police Officers are employed to perform additional patrols within Beat 612, which is the police designation for the East Atlanta community, beyond those presently being performed by the police. The amount of time that the officers shall patrol will be determined by the level of

support from the community in terms of membership. Since more members mean more patrol hours, we encourage you to share this information with your neighbors and East Atlanta business owners. In addition to the general benefit of having additional police patrols at the time they are most needed, members shall receive the following services as part of their membership:
Immediate Access to Security Patrol Service
•Call, text or e-mail anytime with immediate or ongoing public safety concerns

•Officers will check member locations as often as practicable

Tonight at 5:00 at City Hall (55 Trinity Avenue) on the second floor, the License Review Board will be ruling on the alcohol license for Cru East Atlanta. This business is in the location of the former Happy Donuts. The Public Comment period begins at 5:00, but you need to be there earlier in order to get on the speaker list. The Public Comment period is the only opportunity that citizens have to make their voices heard. If you are strongly in favor or strongly against the granting of this license, you will not have another chance to convey your opinion unless you plan to write a letter to the mayor. And counting on the Mayor to reverse the decision of the LRB is probably not the best option.

The results of the hearing will be posted, so you do not need to stay past the Public Comment period to learn the LRB's decision.

The East Atlanta Security Patrol is announcing a crime alert for the area of East Atlanta bordered by Blake and Clifton Roads, from Flat Shoals to Glenwood. There have been a series of crimes in that area, with the worst being a burglary in the 1600 block of Newton Avenue late last week. Multiple armed men were seen on camera in the home at 1:40 in the afternoon. If you are a victim of even a minor crime in that area, be sure to call 911 and the EASP at 404-954-1568. If you see suspicious activity or a crime in progress, contact BOTH these numbers to report it prior to posting on social media.

While the EASP will accept calls from anyone in the community, memberships are how extra patrols are funded, the EASP has full control over where patrols are allocated in case of a spike in crime in a given part of the community. Due to this increase in crime and the approach of the holiday season, the EASP is offering free membership beginning immediately for the remainder of 2024 for East Atlanta residents signing up for a new paid membership at easecuritypatrol.com. This includes all benefits, including extra patrols for your home when requested. The other benefit of membership is that you increase police patrols in your area and in East Atlanta as a whole. All EASP officers are off-duty APD officers in police vehicles with full police powers.

The alcohol license for Cru East Atlanta will not be heard this evening. It will be heard on November 12th. If you desire to speak for or against the approval, you need to arrive well prior to the start of the LRB meeting at 5:00 to be included in the public comment period.

If you are against this business being granted their alcohol license, coming down to speak in person is your best chance to influence the decision. While NPU-W voted to deny the application, it is easy for that recommendation to be ignored unless people make their voice heard.

Vehicle thefts in East Atlanta and throughout Zone 6 are running at an extremely high rate over the past two months. Major Webster has confirmed that approximately 70% of these thefts in our community and across Zone 6 are still Kias and Hyundais.

While many of you may have had a fix installed by the dealer or have models that are not within the easy to steal model years, the thieves are still trying to take the Kias and Hyundais, often damaging them during the unsuccessful attempt. For this reason, the EASP and Zone 6 strongly recommend using a club to provide a visible deterrent whenever you park any Kia or Hyundai outdoors.

Atlanta 911 is reporting problems with their 911 system. For an emergency, call 404-658-6666 instead of 911 until further notice. You can also text 911.

Due to overwhelming community support, we are extending our promotion of three free months through Sunday. Any new membership of three months or longer is entitled to the extra months tacked on to their membership. To join, visit our website at https://www.easecuritypatrol.com/residential-membership.html.

In addition to two significant arrests made earlier this month, our officers frequently help people just by their presence in the neighborhood. Just yesterday, our officer was able to assist one of our neighbors who flagged them down while driving on their street. And offered to help resolve the issue over the weekend. This is not common with on-duty officers, who seldom leave the main streets unless responding to a 911 call, or may be responding to a call outside the East Atlanta community when you need them.

In another instance yesterday, calling the EASP at 404-954-1568 AFTER calling 911 enabled our officer to respond to a call that was sitting in the pending queue. We always encourage this extra call, as most calls are not dispatched right away unless you are reporting a crime in progress. Suspicious person calls or home alarm calls often have long response times, and our officers can respond in an average of 3-5 minutes. Unfortunately they can't respond to a call if it's sitting in the pending queue.

Even if you can't afford a membership in the EASP, the service is available to all members of the community. Call 404-954-1568 or text [email protected] anytime you need a police response. Keep in mind that while we serve all residents, paid memberships are our only source of revenue. More memberships means more hours that our officers can patrol the neighborhood. And memberships do heavily factor into how much time the officers spend in different parts of our community.

Special Offer for New Members Ends October 1st If you sign up for...

If you have drug activity on your street in East Atlanta and live within the Atlanta city limits, please convey the exact address and street where the problem is occurring to [email protected]. If you wish for any action to be taken, do not state that it is the blue house on the corner of ABC street and XYZ street. The problems in the East Atlanta Village are separate from this request.

Be clear about the nature of the problem, such as drug use versus drug sales, foot traffic versus vehicle traffic, times of day this is occurring, etc. This is about ongoing issues in residential areas that impact the safety of our residents.

If you were planning to report 455 East Side or 585 Flat Shoals, those can be excluded from this request.

Your name, contact information or street address will not be used other than to obtain more information from you on the nature of the problem.

The East Atlanta Security Patrol (EASP) has a special offer through November 20th. Instead of waiting until our next official entry date of January 1st to become a member, you may join until November 20th and receive free membership through December 31st before your official membership kicks in on January 1st. We are also waiving the $15 signup fee during this period, so you can join for as little as $50 for almost five months of membership. We appreciate the community's support as we try to boost up our patrols during the holiday season.

All membership dollars go toward funding extra police patrols by uniformed APD officers in East Atlanta. The goal is to discourage crime from occurring in our neighborhood rather than trying to catch criminals after crimes are committed. Patrol time is largely allocated based on where members live, so more members on your street mean a larger share of patrol time for your street. Patrols are also allocated based on current and historical crime patterns.
Members of the EASP may request extra patrols while away from home for work or on vacation. By submitting a simple form, members receive extra patrols at their homes from both the EASP officers and APD officers.

Membership in the EASP is $50 per quarter, with a one-time charge of $15 for administrative fees and an EASP yard sign. Memberships are offered for 3, 6 and 12 months. Call the EASP at 404-954-1568 with any questions.
