Create Communitas Consulting Community development consulting & technical assistance I have 20 years of experience neighborhood level outreach, communications and project-related activism.

Working variously with local government, community-development nonprofits and socially responsible for profit entities, I’ve had the pleasure helping development projects come to fruition throughout the District of Columbia. In the process I have developed excellent writing and editing skills, become a comfortable and dynamic public speaker and meeting facilitator, and enjoyed working in almost all of the neighborhoods of my hometown.

Coming soon to a field near you! This is an ongoing conversation in neighborhoods throughout the country. And if you don't think that kids who get kicked off of a soccer field by callous adults has a negative impact on everyone's quality of life, then you're really not paying attention.

San Francisco’s startup culture has thrived on monetizing commodities that were once free. It’s no wonder that the parks department wants in on the action.

I'm looking forward to being able to walk back and forth on this bridge; this is a transformative moment for the Anacostia Waterfront plan . . . it's going to be a major game changer for SE. All of the waterfront parcels are bought, Sheridan Station is built and Barry Farm is being redesigned. I'm glad Manna is working on their east of the river homeownership iniative, but now is the time to talk preservation of affordability-- not when half the ward is bought.

The Vision McMillan team will have two years to ready a second-stage, more detailed application. Except, an appeal is likely coming from the project's opponents.

We've been hearing about The Plan for years . . . hard to argue that what we have now doesn't look a lot like 'The Plan.' Also, I would argue a little bit with Jaffe-- the things that economists and politicians like to chalk up to "Market Forces" do have some planning behind them.

Addressing two of my favorite topics-- Alley life in DC, and the constant re-writing of city history.

It’s funny how history gets framed, and forgotten, especially in a place changing as fast as Washington, D.C. Alleys in D.C., a Washington Post reporter told us a couple weeks ago, were “once...

I'm really fascinated with Fundrise, which Ben Miller has grown into a viable tool. Check it out Damien Atkins -- this is a broader version of the model that a lot of smaller real estate concerns use.

Fundrise aims to draw a broad range of investors, allowing individuals to invest as little as $100 in hotels, apartment buildings and other development projects.
