"Ooh, look! My favorite guide and some guests. Better make sure the photographers get my good side!"

Brown bears don't always pose so perfectly. But Wild Coast Excursions is there to help you get that perfect portrait.

Thanks to John Hyde for the awesome capture!

Experiencing wilderness up close requires patience and respect for the natural behavior of wildlife. The best way to connect with these incredible animals is to be consistent and predictable, allowing bears to remain at ease in their natural habitat—even if it means getting the occasional side-eye!

At Wild Coast Excursions, our goal is to minimize our impact on the bears' environment. The less we disturb their space, the more likely they are to continue sharing it with us!

It's sometimes about something other than the bears. Sometimes, it's about the stillness of wilderness, the space to breathe, escape the crowds, and reconnect with a forgotten part of who we are as part of the natural world.
But most of the time, it's about the bears. 🐻🐻🐻

Always something new to see from the air in Alaska!

We watched this building sized iceberg roll over just minutes before. Geysers of water jetting up several stories told us something was happening, and then we got to look at the deep blue of the fresh ice.

The collapse of this rarely visited glacier has been alarming and amazing to witness since we first came here in 2009. Come and see Alaska’s changing landscape with .coast.excursions!

Here is a fun one showing the many "expressions" you can capture as the bears go about their business. There is no shortage of opportunity to get photos of the bears eating the sedge this time of year! Its one of their staple foods.

There's a few weeks of spring bear viewing left. Reach out to plan your 2024 or 2025 trip! WildCoastExcursions.com

Protected areas of the Tongass offer world class bear viewing in the spring! Areas where bears are habituated to viewers and are protected from hunting give us a unique chance to see them in their natural environment. This simply is not possible anywhere else until salmon fill Alaska's creeks in late summer. Many people don't realize that spring also offers this amazing opportunity, fortunately we're here to help!

We have 2024 trips still available and are now booking 2025! WildCoastExcursions.com

Not to be dramatic, but Alaska really is a land of wonders!

We were wrapping up a two week trip to mark the start of our bear viewing season when we saw this whale coming up repeatedly around our boat at anchor. We didn't manage to get a picture of it.. but luckily it followed us into the harbor and stayed there feeding all afternoon! We're so lucky to call this place home!

It's Spring! What are our Tongass brown bears up to?

The bears right are now awake and active! Every day, we've been seeing mostly solitary males, but females with cubs are also out in protected areas. The bears are beach combing the high tide lines, looking for animals that didn't survive the winter, foraging on shellfish, and grazing on sedges and greens where they've sprouted. We'll be seeing more and more bears down on the beaches as the vegetation greens up, and especially in areas closed to hunting like neighboring Pack Creek!

May and June offer the summer's best weather in Alaska's Inside Passage and the bears will be out mating and eating after their long winters! Now is the time to book your spring bear viewing trip to Pack Creek at WildCoastExcursions.com!

Bear viewing with Wild Coast is a once-in-a-lifetime experience! We're thrilled to offer world-class fly-in brown bear viewing near Juneau.
