With my young friend Caroline in front of Hansa Studios where David Bowie recorded Low in the 70s when he was living here. He always had an afinity for Berlin. I am training to guide David Bowie tours for Insight Cities, an agency I enjoy working with and joined one of their tours to prepare. It was super fun and I always love learning new things about Berlin.

Best way to get into the Reichstag building is to book a table at the rooftop restaurant Käfer. It's modern German fine dining cuisine. The dessert 🍨was delicious! Have any of you been there? Let me know if you liked it in the comments.

Mexican street food is gaining popularity in Berlin. I have tried 2 excellent places in the last week.

Tonight, just before going to the movies, we grabbed a quick bite to eat at Mama Rosa Taquieria on Mehringdamm, Kreuzberg. I had sumptuous chicken quesedilas from home made corn tortias, yum! Pierre opted for a healthy chicken bowl. The nachos with guacamole that we snuck into the cinema was delicious. They also do cocktails. The place was packed and the service was quick and friendly.

The second place to check out is Gringos on Rosenthaler strasse in Mitte with pink camp decore and a small similar menu. The quesedilas here were also delicious.

Greetings from the splendid Linderhof Palace in the Bavarian Alps. Built by Ludwig ll in the 19th century. The architecture was inspired by Louis the XIV's Versailles and the interior design by his obsession for Wagner.

I am here on a research trip for a tour I will be leeding as a Tour Director in Southern Germany in October. It's a nice way to break the routine in Berlin and soak up a different atmosphere.

Hi everyone. I would like to invite you to a different kind of performance I am doing.... not a tour this time, I am taking part in
a reading & performance event in English with several international writers and artists! How very exciting!

Girl Show me That Body (of Work) at Lettrétage (Veteranenstraße 2110119 Berlin) June 21. 8pm. This will be the first of interdisciplinary event series, exclusively showcasing women writers, poets, and performers from migration backgrounds.

I will be reading my short story: Meeting Mr Right-- a funny and evocative journey of a woman who breaks free from sexual repression and connects to her sexuality. This is very different to my Jewish heritage tours :-) A very different side of me...

You can buy tickets (10 Euros) and find out more about the event in the link in the first comment. I look forward to seeing you!

Found myself at the Designers Outlet on the outskirts of Berlin. It is far from being cheap but my partner did find a pair of Nike running shoes for a bargain price. I window shopped.

Just some name dropping of their brands: Adidas, Hugo Boss, Levis, Fossil, Clark's, Ecco, Lloyd's, Marco O'Pollo, Triumph,Timberland and more.

I haven't been there in years as I am not a big fan of American style shopping and with climate change, I try to buy less, more second hand and I get a lot of hand me downs from a fashionable friend, which is always fun.

But every now and again for a couple of hours it can be fun...

It's possible to get to the Designers Outlet by train (RE4 or RB21) and then bus 662 0r 668. If you are a tourist in Berlin, be aware that shops are closed Sunday, the Outlet is no exception. Check the link to their website in the comment

Friday afternoon at the Josephine Baker exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie. Baker was not just an exceptional entertainer, she worked as a spy for the French in WWII and was also a human rights activist. Baker performed on Berlin stages in 1926 and dazzled the crowds. The exhibition is small but absolutely worth the visit!

January 24, the German film "Stella. A Life." can be seen in cinamas in Germany. Based on a true story about a young Jewish woman who turned in hundreds of Jews to the Gestapo to save herself and her parents. Check out the link below for my article in DW culture online.

Yesterday on tour with 4 lovely sisters from CA. I guide many couples or families traveling with their adult or teenage kids, but it's the first time I guided 4 sisters traveling together as a birthday celebration. What a wonderful way to spend a birthday.

On another note, yesterday was my birthday. Every year that goes by, I dread them more and more. It was a blessing for me to be out and about in town in good company, nothing like storytelling to get a person out of their thoughts.

Thanks for touring with me and have fun in Berlin! And if any of you are thinking of a unique birthday present for a loved one, why not try something different, like a tour. Have a lovely weekend and if you want more info about my tours, please feel free to contact me at Shlomit Tours Berlin or [email protected]

Trains to Life, Trains to Death memorial outside Friedrichstraße station in honor of the Kindertransport always leaves me touched. Especially today, the date of Kristallnacht 85 years ago.
The Kindertransport was a mission to save 10 thousand German and Austrian Jewish children by sending them to Britain.

The mission started straight after Kristallnach; until that point, some Jews thought Hi**er was a passing whim.

Approximately 1.5 million victims of the Holocaust were children. This year the memory of Kristallnacht seems ever so potent.

The best compliment is when clients return to tour with me. Earlier this week, at Hausvogteiplatz with Andrea from YPO (Young Presidents' Organization). She does an amazing job organizing the Berlin conference for the leadership organization. They had many fun and interesting activities planned, including a Jewish heritage tour with me. Here's to many more years of touring together.

FOTOGRAFISKA (Oranienburger Str. 54) is a new hip photography exhibition space in Berlin (there's one in Stockholm too).

Set in a former 19th century department store for electric appliances owned by a Jewish entrepreneur, after the fall of the Berlin Wall it became the Tachles house, a famous artist's squat.

The building is a mix of modern chic and derelict charm such as this stairwell in the photo.

The exhibitions change every few months. Currently, three exhibitions are on, my personal favorite was Whiteface by South African artist Candice Breitz, a clever and captivating video installation that deals with white supremacy. N**E, photos by various artist exploring nudity, body image, gender and sexuality and photos by trans artist Juliana Huxtable.

Open daily till 11pm! Perfect for an evening date or outing that can be combined with drinks and nibbles in the bar on the ground floor. Have fun. Have any of you already visited?

After a long summer break, I started touring again. Jona (on the left) participated in the marathon last Sunday and his partner Zoe (on my right) and parents came to cheer. It was also a great opportunity for them to spend some family time together. Thanks for touring with me. Have any of you participated in the Berlin marathon?

This week I had one of the toughest and emotionally unrewarding tours I have had as a guide.

Imagine standing in front of 43 American teen agers aged 15-17 who are disinterested in anything you have to say, half of them secretly plugged to their ear pods.

Why, why am I doing this to myself was what I was thinking to almost the entire time of these two full day tours. Why don't i just turn down groups of humans under the age of 25?

I love working with adults, I love working with families, I also love kids. But a pack of teenagers is a whole other species. A dangerous one.

Why 43? I had asked the travel agency to limit the group to 30. They notified me a few days before the tour that 30 had turned to 43. And no, they did not provide a whisper system in a noisy city.

And by the way, I have learned my lesson about clearer and stricter rules about a size of a group. In writing! Because my voice is one of my most precious tools. And people who work with me need to respect that.

My ray of light in these two days was Alon who is standing next to me in the photo at Sans Souci palace, Potsdam.

Alon was the tour leader of the group, it is the second year we work together and he is great and helps make the logistics run smoothly. Plus he confiscates pods and puts the group in order when they misbehave. Though I make it clear that no one needs to listen. But if they want to chat please step aside.

When Alon doesn't manage tours he guides wine tours in Israel. He is a somelier . I am planning a tour with him on my next visit to Israel. A link to his website is in the first comment. He will return next year with more groups...BTW...he is not responsible for the size of the group or teenage indifference.
