Although it’s not widely known, the route signs at Tokyo Metro entrances and exits are arranged from left to right based on their proximity to the ticket gates. This is especially helpful in multi-line stations like Otemachi, where the lines are far apart.

Shin-Osaka Station is set to celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2024 with a series of special events and commemorative items, marking its pivotal role since its opening on October 1, 1964. Over six decades, the station has become a key hub for travelers in Japan, serving as a gateway for both domestic and international visitors.

To honor the milestone, JR West, JR Central, and Osaka Metro, along with commercial facilities at the station, will collaborate on a range of activities to express gratitude to the community and passengers. The celebration, spanning from October 1 to December 31, 2024, will include special anniversary-themed merchandise, limited-edition food items, and a variety of public events.

A key highlight of the festivities is the unveiling of a 60th-anniversary logo, which will be featured on badges worn by station staff and displayed across participating commercial outlets. The design symbolizes the station’s development, showing Shin-Osaka’s map and train lines from a bird’s eye view. The logo creatively incorporates the station’s history, with the zero in “60” representing the driving wheel at the front entrance of the station.

Exclusive merchandise featuring the anniversary logo will be available for purchase, including keychains and clear files, which feature historical designs from JR West and JR Central. These items will be sold at various shops throughout the station, with some designed to showcase the evolution of the Shinkansen (bullet trains) over the years.

For food enthusiasts, there will be a limited-time sale of a special edition “red and white” mochi by the popular confectionery brand Akafuku, available for only three days in mid-October. Additionally, commemorative bento boxes, including a “MIRAI” lunch box featuring celebratory packaging, will be available. Other culinary offerings include dishes inspired by Osaka and Kansai’s traditional flavors.

The station will also host a nostalgic photo exhibition comparing images of Shin-Osaka from its early days to the present, providing a reflective look at its history. For a fun, family-friendly experience, a special photo spot will be set up, allowing visitors to take commemorative photos. On select days in October, the station will host events like children’s uniform dress-up photo opportunities and meet-and-greets with mascots from JR West, JR Central, and Osaka Metro.

This milestone celebration is not only a reflection on Shin-Osaka Station’s role in shaping regional travel over the past 60 years but also an invitation for the public to join in on the festivities. With a variety of events and exclusive items available, the anniversary is expected to draw crowds and create memorable experiences for travelers passing through the iconic station.
