🚉 Starting July 2025, JR East is rolling out new reserved-seat ticket machines.

Key upgrades:

• Simple menus like “Buy Ticket” & “Change Ticket”
• Mobile Suica users can buy Shinkansen tickets at transfer gates (no need to visit a ticket office)
• JR Pass pickup via machine begins Spring 2026 (passport required)
• Support for multiple languages (ENGLISH, 简体中文, 繁體中文, 한국어)

From Oct 2025:

• Older machines get updated UI
• Refunds now possible for canceled trains & 2+ hr delays (including Tokaido, Sanyo, Kyushu, Nishikyushu Shinkansen)

This 1968 photo captures Kobe’s Sannomiya district at a time of rapid urban expansion. Streetcars still ran through the city, and the Hanshin Department Store stood as a commercial landmark.

By 1970, Kobe’s population had grown to over 1.3 million. Streetcar service ended in 1971, and the department store later became part of the Hankyu network.

🚄🐼 Great news: JR West confirms the Panda Kuroshio limited express will continue running after Adventure World’s pandas head back to China on June 28, 2025. The panda-wrapped trains will still link Shin-Osaka with Shirahama and Shingū, thanks to strong public support.

Shibuya Station’s skyline is changing again. After the East Tower opened in 2019, construction has now begun on the Central and West Towers of Shibuya Scramble Square. When completed by 2031, the complex will form one of the largest commercial hubs in the Tokyo metro area. https://www.japanstation.com/shibuya-station-redevelopment-enters-major-new-phase-completion-set-for-2034/

A multi-layered pedestrian network will connect Shibuya Station to the surrounding neighborhoods on all four sides, at both ground and elevated levels. This network will greatly improve accessibility and better integrate the station with its urban environment.

At Tokyo Station, even the JK line is no joke.

JK stands for the Keihin-Tohoku Line, a major commuter route that runs north to south through Greater Tokyo, connecting Ōmiya in Saitama to Yokohama in Kanagawa. It’s marked in light blue and coded “JK” on station signs to help riders navigate the city’s massive rail network.

So while the sign says JK, Tokyo’s definitely not kidding. 🚉🇯🇵
