Ever walk away from a trip feeling like you wanted more out of it? Read below for how I am able to make the most out of all my trips (even the super short weekend ones)
1. Eat local foods. If you are in a new city or new country skip the chain restaurants and focus on locally owned restaurants, food trucks and markets. Try foods native to the region and eat what is locally sourced (aka when in Virginia get the Chesapeake Bay oysters!)
2. Take public transit. If you’re in a city with a great metro system, use it! Not only will you save money in ride sharing services but you’ll get a better feel for the area and have a higher chance of stumbling upon hidden gems. After two days in Amsterdam I was working the metro with little need for GPS. True story!
3. Mingle with other locals or travelers, especially when traveling solo. You learn so much from hearing others’ stories and experiences. Plus locals will often be happy to share their favorite restaurants, things to do, places to see, etc. This gives you a completely unique experience you can share with everyone back home.
4. Take a walking tour of the city. The first time I went to London I didn’t even see the Big Ben! The main thing I wanted to see. Now, I always love starting my trips on a tour with a local guide. You’ll learn about the history and culture of the area and it’s a great way to get all of your major sightseeing done in a couple of hours.
Bonus Tip: Hire a travel advisor! We are experts at putting together thoughtful trip itineraries that put your personal style and preferences at the forefront. We save you hours of planning and you’ll feel confident going into your trip knowing you have an expert by your side.
