Zondag, 14 januari, werd nog hard gewerkt aan een dijk die effectief is gebleken. Het dorp werd grotendeels hierdoor gered.

Last night, a volcanic eruption started in the southwest region of Iceland. The volcanic activity is not affecting our operations or Keflavík airport, and our flight schedule remains unchanged.

Eldgos er hafið norðan við Grindavík. Miðja gossins er staðsett nálægt Sundhnúksgígum um 4 km norðaustur af Grindavík. Eldgosið hófst kl. 22.17 í kjölfar skjálftahrinu sem hófst um kl. 21. Þyrla Landhelgisgæslunnar fer í loftið innan skamms til þess að staðfesta nákvæma staðsetningu og stærð eldgossins. Nánari upplýsingar verðar aðgengilegar fljótlega.
