BuskinCity is an idéa created in 2014 by Thorsten Andreassen, Festival Director of Stocholm Street Festival and codeveloped with his dear colleague Ulf Andersson Festival Director of International Street Theatre Festival in Halmstad. Both of them have a long experience of street theatre and street performing in the public space since 30 years. Since 2017 Thorsten Andreassen is running the BuskinCity alone, but with company BuskinCity AB and the CEO Lorang Andreassen as the back bone for it's operations.

SOME 9 YEARS AGO, MY BROTHER CAME TO ME WITH AN IDEA….

He wanted to do a website for streetperformers to book them self in a bookingcalendar in cities round the world. And where you as an audience could follow and see them perform. That was the beginning of buskincity.com. It took nearly a year to set it up. We at that time connected with a team of Indian techs who helped us develop the platform. It lasted for a few years until they just quit, got a steady job. There we stood with a source code (As u know often without any value) and a website in need of support and maintenance. At that time I struggled whit some other investments, so we let it be as it was.

We had most of the content and functions needed, but no tech. 2019 I met a guy who had a tech community in India. He could help and bring us to the next step for a fixed and decent price. Me and my brother sat down and we decided the idea was too good to drop.

I sat down and made the pro and cons and saw a wider use of the functionality in the product.We could make a platform with a wider market ( buts that is another story).

This lead us to sit down and brainstorm together with Daniel (owner of Holland & Philipson). We changed the approach. We had focused on the performer, not the audience.

Today buskincity.com is up and running with a new modern and flexible platform, where you can find street performers from all around the world.

This is an old news by now but still relevant!
This is so wrong by the Ottawa city and the owners of the market place. Instead of being grateful having professional street performers entertain the crowd, putting an ambience and a cheerful atmosphere around the Market place they are now charging $50 for a 2 hour slot! It should be the other way around.



Some ByWard Market buskers are frustrated they will have to pay $50 to book two hours of space in select parts of the market, which officials say is to help with maintenance costs.
