Normandy

General Erich Marks, commander of German’s 84th Army Corps and considered one of the best Generals in the Werhmacht, left his HQ in Saint-Lô one morning of June 12 for an inspection tour. At the Teurses exit in the direction of the village of Hebecrevon, his car was strafed by an Allied fighter plane. Already amputated of a leg during the campaign of Russia, his valid leg is almost severed by the grapeshot. He died of a hemorrhage. General Marks is buried in the Chapelle-Enjuger military cemetery.

In the film The Longest Day, Marcks is played by Richard Münch

Good morning from Normandy!!!
D-Day one of the most well known word in human history. 77 years ago paratroopers landed during the night on the soil of France 77 years ago at the right moment I write this message allies were storming the shores of 5 beaches in Normandy and the cliff at La Pointe du Hoc, at the same time 82nd airborne fought at La Fière Manor and others somewhere in Normandy. Each village each field each cross road and causeway became the theater of combat to gain freedom.
