Juneteenth Celebration
Happy Juneteenth! ✊🏾 Every year, we commemorate the holiday by celebrating the legacy of Lt. Colonel Allen Allensworth, a man who escaped slavery, became a United States Army Veteran and later founded the historic town of Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park. Founded in 1908, this town is the only California community established, funded, and governed by African Americans. Here, settlers could own property, pursue education, and live with true freedom.
This year, we received the Route to Parks grant from Parks California, and were able to send over 150 people from the Bay Area and Bakersfield to Allensworth to celebrate Juneteenth. We're fortunate to partner with such amazing groups and want to thank all involved! It's an honor to educate the public and bring people to the park each year.

Thruway Bus Route 18 is SUCH an underrated way to travel to California's Central Coast! 🌊 Route 18 will take you from Hanford, Visalia and Lemoore to Atascadero, Paso Robles, Grover Beach and Santa Maria.
Pro tip: The Grover station is *right* next to the ocean and also provides a connection to the Pacific Surfliner. We definitely recommend taking the scenic route and spending the night next time! ☀️🚌

Getting to the city is a breeze when you travel through Amtrak San Joaquins! Taking northbound train 711 or 713 will allow you to spend the most time in San Francisco. Here's a couple ways to get there and where you'll end up:
⛴️ From Jack London Square Station, hop on the San Francisco Bay Ferry and enjoy gorgeous views of San Francisco Bay. You'll end up right next to the Ferry Building.
🚌 From the Emeryville Station, take Thruway Bus Route 99. You'll arrive near the Salesforce Building on Mission St, just a ten minute walk from the Ferry Building!
🚎 From the Richmond Station, board a connecting Bay Area Rapid Transit line and head to San Francisco, where you'll be able to hop off at numerous locations around city!
Be sure to check schedules for connecting partners prior to booking!
