Each year the S&D Scholarship Subcommittee awards monetary and training scholarships sponsored by various donors in the aviation industry. The online application process went live July 26th and will continue until October 7th. I have a handout available that shows the links for the applications. The handout also is a Fact Sheet about the scholarship program. If your company is interested in being a scholarship donor, pick up one of these handouts as it provides contact information for the Scholarship Chair. Great news! After years of hard work, Van Nuys Airport VNY is now able to welcome international travelers to the San Fernando Valley! The recently opened U.S. Customs And Border Protection station means that airplanes coming from international destinations (including Canada, Mexico, South America, or anywhere on the Pacific Rim) will no longer have to stop at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to go through customs.

I am proud of this victory for the Valley and excited about the jobs and expanded business opportunities that this influx of passengers will bring. Yesterday I stopped by Van Nuys Airport and met some of these men and women, who will be the first faces that travelers from all over the world see when they arrive at our airport. Their hard work will help bring more jobs and business to our Valley.
