The Okavango Delta Botswana Experience‼️
Kiri Camp is named after the Kiri channel which flows passed the island on which the camp is situated. The camp is raised on wooden decks to give one a view of the mighty Kiri floodplains which stretch out in front of the camp. The luxury tents are designed to incorporate the surrounding ebony forest under which the camp is situated. The use of wood, canvas and reeds are primary to the architecture of this stunning camp.
Kiri Camp offers a combination of both game drives and water activities. Based on a private concession, these activities will take you to some of the more remote areas in the delta, previously inaccessible. A motorboat ride during peak flood times promises to enthral you and captivate you, with the chance of seeing iconic wildlife from the river. Glide on quiet mokoro’s through the water lilies and view wildlife from below as you sail along at water level height. The wildlife in the Kiri area is diverse and plentiful, renowned for its lion and buffalo interactions and rare wild dog numbers✅

While lions are not natural tree climbers our guests where fortunate to witness this first hand in the Lewa Conservancy of East Africa‼️
There are various resident prides from Southern and East Africa where these mighty cats have been observed climbing trees. This seemingly unusual behaviour has intrigued researchers and wildlife enthusiasts.
Several theories have emerged to explain this intriguing behaviour:
Escape from Pests: Lions, like many other animals, can be plagued by bothersome insects and parasites. Climbing trees can provide respite from these pests, offering lions a chance to find relief in the cool and breezy heights.
Aerial View for Scouting: Climbing trees allows lions to gain a strategic vantage point for surveying their surroundings. From the treetops, they can spot potential prey, rival predators, or any potential threats from a distance.
Escape from Flooding: Kruger National Park is known for its dramatic weather patterns, which can lead to sudden flooding. Climbing a tree can be a lion's lifeline in such situations, keeping them safe from rising waters.
Rest and Reprieve: Trees can offer a welcome respite from the heat and can be a comfortable spot for resting during the day. The shade and height provide a cooler environment compared to the baking sun of the savannah.
Play and Exploration: Like domestic cats, lions have a playful side. Cubs, in particular, might be drawn to tree-climbing as a form of exploration or as an extension of their natural instinct to climb.

Matthew started his career off by studying and achieiving a Lodge Management and Game Ranging Diploma and worked as a field guide for some time, manging 5 star safari lodges too. Through this time Matthew met Nicollette, who at the time was working on the next door property also at a 5 star safari lodge and have since then gotten married and started little bush family making it 3 of us to date.
