Everyone is encouraged to take part and share their own stories, photos and trivia. Voyages is a four volume set of reference books. Over seven years of research went into Voyages. It spans the time from RMS Queen Mary's Sea Trials to her arrival in Long Beach, 9th December 1967. Thousands of documents have been transcribed in chronological order, in log form. These documents include, but are not
limited to, ships logs, passage books, company & ship's memorandum, reports - damage, heavy weather, deaths, accidents, and so much more. Voyages is actually written by the officers & crew of the great liner itself. The book is dedicated to them. It is after all in their own words as it happened so many years ago. Volume 1 1936 - 1946 is about to start the editing process. Then it will be formatted and printed. Voyages will be offered for a very reasonable price. I feel that the information held in these volumes is of educational purposes. It not only highlights the history of RMS Queen Mary but also that of the British Merchant Marine during the mid-twentieth century. In that respect it is also a history of an industry, a business. are all included in Volumes 2 - 4. It goes without saying that this book would not have been possible without the help of Ron Smith, Director of the Archives during the 1990s and with the permission of Joseph Prevatil. Ron's patience over the course of seven years was amazing. To them I owe a tremendous thank you. To the Officers and Crew of RMS Queen Mary, also the shore staff in Southampton & Liverpool this is their work. And I also say thank you. On the eve of her last sailing from New York during a benefit, The Mayor of New York said "There is only one Queen Mary and one Queen Mary crew." So true. King George V said "May her life among the great waters spread friendship among the nations." Indeed she did. American Express said "On behalf of the thousands of Americans with whom the Queen and her crew shared their great hospitality, Thanks and Farewell." The French Line said "To an old friend and worthy competitor, a heart felt adieu." The SS United States said "A salute to the Queen Mary - great lady of the sea." Midland Bank said "To the next thousand sailings." Thank you Queen Mary and Crew!
