Day 1 of vacation was a train ride, walking Bourbon Street, and dinner at our favorite FQ restaurant, Oceana Grill. We ate gator po’boy with real Cajun fries smothered in Cajun gravy, gator bites, deep fried crab cakes with blackened shrimp, and oysters.

I highly recommend taking the train from Memphis to NOLA if you plan on staying in the French Quarter. Parking is very limited and expensive, and it is just not super easy to get around in a car. It is, however, very walkable.

While I am on vacation this week, I’d be happy to help you plan your NOLA Getaway! Message me today!

Busy travel week for clients and myself!

I have clients on a 4 state road trip out west. Another leaves for England today, while another returns from a week in D.C. And another family is getting ready for a Disney/Universal adventure this weekend. My own family will be traveling to New Orleans this weekend as well!

All this travel has me wondering… what are your summer plans this year? Share your staycation adventures as well!

12/06/2024

My final post about our western Kentucky road trip is of course, a food place! we found this cute little bakery thinking g they would have a good latte. No such luck there-we never found a latte at Land Between the Lakes. But what we did find was an amazing little lunch and breakfast spot!

The man that greeted us stated that the little lady behind the counter had been making homemade bread, muffins, and bakery items for 40 years. Irene was a sweet little grandma looking lady for sure! He also claimed to have the BEST muffins in the world, and the only mistake in choosing a flavor would be not getting enough.

We opted for breakfast- waffle with fresh blueberries, and homemade biscuit and gravy. But you can’t go to the a place claiming to have the best muffins in the world and not try them! So we ordered a banana chocolate chip and key lime pie muffin to go. As mentioned in previous posts, it was a rainy day. One of ladies came up to our table and offered us free muffin due to the weather! So we choose a cappuccino muffin. The verdict- quite possibly the best muffins in the world!

So check out The Lite Side Bakery on your road trip, and message me today to help you plan it!

Let me tell you about our little Kentucky road trip last weekend!

It all began because we wanted to go check out the Elk and Bison Prairie, so that was the #1 thing to do on our list. We arrived Saturday night around 8 pm. Most food establishments stop serving between 8-9, so we were limited on finding dinner. Our only option was a little Mediterranean inspired restaurant called Popitos. It looked really fancy when we pulled up, and felt we would be out of place in our road trip attire. We were wrong! All the customers were in their lake attire, so we were actually dressed pretty well for our environment. And the menu was very reasonably priced! They served some Mediterranean inspired dishes, but we opted for their homemade pizza and were not disappointed!

We stayed at the Kentucky Dam Village Resort Park, which you can see in yesterday’s post. Great for a quick and inexpensive stay, but we could certainly have gone a week long stay here in one of their lake cabins.

I’ll save breakfast for another post today because that is how worth it it was! But the Elk and Bison Prairie was beautiful! Such a peaceful drive through beautiful scenery, looking out for these beautiful majestic creatures that called the park home. Sadly, it was raining, so most of the animals were hiding in the trees, save a few that ventured out for food or drink. The turkey however, we’re a bonus, and they were freely wondering about. Bonus- only $5/car, and you can go around the loop as many times as you want!

In the span of roughly 25 hours, we travelled through 5 states: Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Illinois. We crossed 3 state rivers: Mississippi, Tennessee, and the Ohio! We explored to major lakes: the Kentucky and Lake Barkley. We saw elk, bison, deer, turkey, and fish of course. Needless to say, it was a fun filled yet relaxing little trip that most certainly did not break the bank!

Enjoy these pics from the Elk and Bison Prairie and our drive, and message me today about setting you up with perfect Western Kentucky getaway!

My husband and decided to take a quick road trip this weekend! While it could have easily been a day trip, work schedules caused us to split it up and make an overnight trip out of it. So I hope you will enjoy some insoration this week on our road trip to the Land Between the Lakes in Western Kentucky!

I’ll start off by sharing our hotel. There were lots of losing options in the area, but we were looking for inexpensive above all else last weekend. Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park far exceeded the expectations we has for an inexpensive stay. Our room was immaculately clean, and we even had our own patio that overlooked the marina. We could walk to lake, or view it from the lobby, the pool, the restaurant, or our room! They even have cabins available for families! We will make the trip back to this resort again and try a cabin next time! So many amnenities!

For a lesser known food location in Little Rock, I suggest hitting up Maddie’s downtown. It’s has a cool and funky vibe, and is a perfect lunch spot! Specializing in Cajun and creole favorites, I’m in heaven in this place. Pair your favorite fish with a local craft beer from the tap, and you can’t beat this place. Service and food are both top notch, and the atmosphere is quaint and cozy. A trip to Maddie’s is always hit when in Little Rock!

Since I suggested a hotel and coffee place yesterday, I thought I was mention a couple of my favorite food spots in Little Rock today. I have 2 favorites. I’ll start off today with the one most of you have probably at least heard of.

Doe’s Eat Place in an iconic Arkansas steakhouse located in downtown. It’s outward, and inward appearance make it seem so unassuming, but the atomosphere, history, and food are worth it! While the menu does not offer a large selection, visitors come already knowing what they want. Steak, and homemade tamales! The political history is just as fascinating as the food! it’s known for all kinds of off the cuff meetings and back room dealings with so many high profile political figures, including former President Bill Clinton. So grab a table outside, weather permitting, order some tamales while you wait on your steak dinner-served family style, drink a beer, and soak in all those political secrets at this iconic piece of Arkansas history!

Stay tuned for my lesser known pick later today! And in the meantime, message me about throwing together a last minute trip to Little Rock this summer!

While we are talking about Little Rock, here is spotlight in the capital city. The Four Points by Sheraton in Midtown is a great choice for anyone coming to Little Rock for medical reasons due to its proximity to UAMS, St. Vincent’s, Baptist, Carti, and Children’s. It is also located only minutes from the zoo, captial, and downtown. BONUS: they offer a hospital rate for medical appointments, which includes breakfast! With a fabulous pool, bar, breakfast buffet, and service, this hotel makes inconvenient trips enjoyable. BONUS #2- you can sign up for rewards with Marriott-Bonvoy and earn points towards future stays!

Sharing hidden gems in places a lot of us visit frequently. Little Rock is a popular destination for most Arkansans, whether it be for ball games, medical appointments, work travel, or just visiting friends and family. I myself travel here several times a year for doctor appointments at Carti Cancer Center. on these not-so-fun trips, I like to look for moments of pleasure in hidden gems.

Those who know me well know my passion for coffee. So it should be no surprise thst today’s gem is the result of my search for amazing coffee! Guillermo's Gourmet Grounds is a fabulous little coffee house that roasts their own beans in house. They can even create a custom blend just for you. Besides the amazing lattes they whip up, you can also indulge in their tasty homemade bakery items, such as croissants and homemade pop tarts!

Next time you find yourself in Little Rock for whatever reason, stop by this cute little coffee shop, grab a seat and a latte, a croissant, and buy you a bag of your own beans to try at home! You won’t regret this little side trip!

For more hidden gems in Arkansas, message me today to help you look for some great spots!
