Wisconsin's Copper Falls State Park is a waterfall lover’s dream. Here the Tyler Forks River joins the Bad River in a two-mile long narrow and rocky river gorge where the river plunges over several dramatic cascades. The park's namesake, Copper Falls, is a 30-foot cascade that offers dramatic views from several vantage points. Nearby, Brownstone Falls drops 40 feet into a deep gorge, showcasing colorful rock layers. You’ll also see a beautiful rapid called the Cascades and several other waterfalls within the park. But the beauty and adventure doesn’t stop there, as you’ll also find a unique rock formation along the river named “Devil’s Gate”, a scenic bridge, Loon Lake, and an observation tower offering excellent views of the surrounding forested hills and Lake Superior to the north. A walk through South Carolina's Stumphouse Tunnel is one of the most eerie-yet-interesting tunnel walks you'll find anywhere in the US. Located in Walhalla, SC…this old railroad tunnel was dug using hand tools prior to the Civil War, but never actually finished as initially planned. The tunnel extends approximately one fourth of a mile before you reach an eerie brick wall and locked iron doors where you can explore no further. The tunnel was originally intended as a railroad tunnel that would connect Charleston, SC and the midwest…but the Civil War came along, resources and funds were needed elsewhere, and the tunnel was abandoned. Clemson University eventually bought the tunnel in the 1950’s as a place to cure its famous bleu cheese thanks to it staying 50 degrees inside year-round. Today, Stumphouse Tunnel is operated as a public park by the city of Walhalla, along with nearby Isaqueena Falls.

At Missouri’s Devils Well, you can see down through a sinkhole at one of the country’s largest underground lakes 100 feet below. Devils Well was formed when the ceiling of a huge Ozarks cavern, housing an underground lake, collapsed. This formed a large sinkhole with an opening at the bottom where you can peer down at the lake, which may be as much as 80 feet deep. A staircase leads down to the bottom of the sinkhole, where there’s a platform and a steel grate…and then the underground lake below. The underground lake is said to flow to the outlet of Cave Spring nearby on the Current River. The road into Devils Well is rough and a short trail leads in. Located in Salem, MO, it is open every day and makes for one of the more interesting sights in the Ozarks.
