Many great art works can be seen in Vienna at the moment:
König Galerie presents the new marble food sculptures of Erwin Wurm, who consistently shows us that we are idolising the wrong things – like cars, food, houses – and seeking a false sense of social and physical security by indulging in them for a little „extra padding". The title of the series – ICONS – shows clearly what is all about.
Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien is devoting a retrospective to David Hockney. Several of the artist’s major works are being transferred from the Tate London to Vienna, among them his iconic Swimming Pools paintings and the wonderful couple relationships from 1970s showing for example his parents or the back then new bobo attitude.
Albertina Modern had a big exhibition about the art of the 1980s with exceptional works of Basquiat, Haring or Gilbert & George, to name but a few. From October they will have one exhibition dedicated to the abstract expressionism of the New York School with Po***ck, Rothko, Mitchell and a solo exhibition of the great media/performance artist VALIE EXPORT, one of the pioneers of feminist art.
