Rooted in African masquerade traditions and shaped by Caribbean and European influences, Ole Mas is a vibrant, satirical form of Carnival performance. Originally a parody of colonial masters, it has evolved into a dynamic element of Trinidad's Carnival, reflecting the island's rich cultural heritage and social commentary. Hey everyone, it’s Fayola here! We’re back with another edition of Founder's Favs, and today we’re diving into Spirit's 2025 costumes. As many of you may already know, Spirit’s costumes have completely sold out. If you missed out on booking, I’m sorry! However, I still want to highlight the costumes that really stood out to me.

I actually love the local twist they decided to go with their theme this year.

It was difficult to decide but my favourite frontline design is Botanica by Sandra Hordatt (). The integration of floral elements and colours, the nod to Mother Nature and of course the shaping of the body. I think it will look great on many skin tones and sizes and may even be comfortable to wear.

I do have to give an honourable mention to the bra shape of Dimanche by Douglas John (). Stunning.

My favourite “backline” is hard to choose because there are not really clear backline presenting options. But I will chose Brea by Nakita Hyatali (). The body shaping is phenomenal and I appreciate the use of the rainbow patterned fabric showing the many colours you can see reflected in the sheen on the pitch lake.

My favourite male however was easy. I’m a sucker for army type styling and the functional vest with pockets that Levi Marcus (.marcus) added just took it over the top. 🤌🏽

I must also give a shout out to the feather-work professionals. All of the backpacks are exquisitely done.

Ready to take on the road for Carnival? 🥳 Here’s how to keep your energy up all day long:

1. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your energy levels up.
2. Eat Smart: Start with a hearty breakfast and snack on fruits, nuts, and energy bars to maintain stamina.
3. Pace Yourself: Alternate between dancing and resting to avoid burnout.
Use Electrolytes: Consider electrolyte drinks or supplements to replenish lost minerals.
4. Get Enough Sleep: Make sure you’re well-rested before hitting the road to sustain your energy all day.
5. Comfort: Wear comfortable shoes and ensure that your costume choice is breathable and light to keep cool and avoid fatigue.

Let’s go hard or go home… but we’re definitely not going home!

Hey guys! We're back with another Founder's Fav and this time, we're talking about Bliss.

It took me a while to choose my favorite just based on the sheer amount of sections BLISS has this year (12!) but in the end my favouring frontline hands down was Colibrí by Sheena Ali (). I adore the mixture of Blues and greens and of course the swinging movement of the waterfall gems on the hips is stunning! You guys know I love a swish!!! And the feather-work presented as hummingbirds is something I have not seen since a Peter Minshall depiction. Truly gorgeous.

The backline I was drawn to most was Athena by Kristin Camacho and Lauren Castillo (). I love when bottom pieces have a point in the centre. It really does help shape the body and flatters a lot of different shapes and sizes. The deep purple is also beautiful but it a colour you may have to check against your skin tone to see if it will stand out or blend in. The overall design however does indeed give the Goddesslike effect the name suggests.

Ironically, my favourite male costume here is in Elle by Shawn Dhanraj (). I appreciate the different elements that are available, giving the men the choice to also feel costumed instead of a second thought.

The attention to detail in The Lost Tribe ( and ) is always phenomenal and this year is nothing different. There is also a level of customisation you seldom find in other bands and that too I must commend. There is something to love in each costume but I’ll still choose my favourite.

For the female body wear it honestly is a toss up between Seven and Fly.

The blend of tie-dye colour in the front of the Seven by that turns into the flower type cups simulating to me both a blooming flower and a clam opening to show its treasure? It’s truly mesmerizing. And as I’ve said many times before, I love a costume with movement, and the dangling crystals that swish with every step while it refracts sunlight? I can only imagine the glorious show it will make on the road.

For us that like the drama but don’t want to be too encumbered with things, Fly by is such an amazing piece. The way the hourglass shaped top will shape the body creating a powerful illusion while the cut of the bottom piece elongates the torso? Genius. That’s to say nothing of the spectacular eye-catching colours that will look great on so many skin tones. Plus the included sunglasses just make it feel like the cool chic section you know?

It is always hard to choose a favourite male costume in Lost Tribe but mine is Anansi by and . And I am biased. It just presents so authentically African. So rich in history and steeped in our folk tradition. And I know it will look theatrical on the road. I can’t wait to see the photographs!

Hey guys, it’s Fayola, the Founder and CEO, back again during Band Launch season to walk you through some of my fave costumes. Today, we're looking at Tribe.

Noor by is my favourite overall pick. I like the way both the frontline and high-waited options shape the body. I think the colour will be flattering on a lot of people and I love the fact that it has dangling pieces that will give movement when on the road.

The Hikaya (by by ) option of wire bra with monokini bottom piece and belt also does a fantastic job of shaping the body whilst using an interesting mixture of hems and sequins on the body wear that I believe will catch the sunlight magnificently.

Marienge’s Amina is also giving beautiful body wear in a colour I would not have thought to wear before now. But it again, shapes the body in both options and presents stunningly even without the feather work. This seems like it would also flatter many skin tones and you can already see the stones glistening in the photos. Far less for in the sunshine.

My favourite male costume is Tawfiq by .d . I love the variety of colours and the different options. It allows the men to choose from full desert fantasy to desert-like mas. Although if you are looking for drama you’d probably have to go to Azhar.

Lastly I want to commend the feather work this year. I feel as though each backpack is stunning in its own rite complimenting its costume beautifully.

Hey guys, it’s Fayola, the Founder and CEO, back again during Band Launch season to walk you through some of my fave costumes. Today, it’s YUMA's turn.

Hands down, Echoes' by colours are amazing, beautifully picked up in the patterned fabric and other cloth accessories. The feather work is phenomenal, and the entire costume definitely gives the African tribal warrior vibe it’s meant to. Plus, the belt with that loincloth piece emphasizes the wine? Stunning.

Now, let’s move on to my favourite frontline—Emperor by . I love blue and butterflies, so no surprise it’s my pick. The wing elements in the arm and leg pieces show great attention to detail, carried over to the hand-painted cloth backpack. It showcases Alejandro’s artistry and is light to carry. Just be cautious of a strong wind.

I couldn’t choose a single favorite backline—too many great options! But I love the monokini for Poui by , which elongates the body, and the mesh in Hibiscus by , which is both comfortable and secure. Also, Bae-go’s colour (also by Alejandro) is stunning and should suits many skin tones.

That’s all from me on YUMA. Look forward to my picks for the TRIBE FAMILY bands. See you next time!
