šŸ¤«Foodie Confession time. Iā€™ve never been to Hatsuyaki Hand Roll until recently. I FINALLY bumped it to the top of the list. And oh my, Iā€™m so glad I did.

āœØAs soon as you walk into , itā€™s a vibe. Firstly, thereā€™s no table seating. The sushi chefs take center stage and thereā€™s a U-shaped bar seating surrounding the action. Minimal wood accents define the spaces. Once seated youā€™re given your sushi menu and pencil where you make your menu choices.

šŸ£If you havenā€™t figured out already they specialize in Hand Rolls. The sushi chef presents them to you as soon as they are made, which really makes for a nice flow. Thereā€™s lots of options but we went the Combo Menu that included bay scallops, crab, lobster and salmon and yellow tail. Watching your sushi chef in action is a unique part of the experience. Once again the sushi takes center stage, the hand rolls are simply prepared with sushi and rice enveloped in a just crispy enough seaweed wrapper (nori). No cream cheese or avocado bells and whistles here, they arenā€™t needed. Each bite was decadent and delicious and we didnā€™t want the meal to end. Each roll had its own story and flavors and it was hard to decide on our favorite. Jiro can dream is sushi, Iā€™ll dream of HatsuyskiāœØ.

šŸ’«Hereā€™s what you need to know if you are a first-timer. They do not take reservations and there can be a wait during their busy times. Please donā€™t let this stop you, itā€™s worth the wait! We wandered around and had a pre-dinner drink. šŸ“907 Foch Street

šŸŽ„Itā€™s the Holiday Season and we could all use a cup of holiday cheer! Hereā€™s 6 Festive spots that will make your spirits bright!

šŸ¤  The is the perfect spot to experience a Cowtown Christmas!
ā˜‘ļø Huge Tree
ā˜‘ļø Festive Lobby
ā˜‘ļø Bonus Points for a Fireplace
Stroll the grounds and try one of their holiday cocktails, on my last visit I enjoyed a classic Old-Fashioned. Take in the tree or cozy up next to the fireplace.

šŸ¹ On a recent trip to I unexpectedly felt like I was having a very Mele Kalikimaka Christmas. A tropical drink in hand, a very piratey Christmas tree, cozy seating and the low-key cool yet moody tropical atmosphere filled a gap I didnā€™t even know was missing. Cheers to their High Priestess of Funk drink that hit the spot!

šŸŽ… Thereā€™s a ā€œMiracleā€ happening at . Everything that isnā€™t nailed down is festooned in Christmas regalia and itā€™s a fun and popular spot. Their snowball Old Fashioned is just one of the many Christmas-themed drinks on their pop-up menu.

šŸŒ· Youā€™ll find a FREE show tonight with local favorite . Their seasonal cocktails include the Persimmon Sour with Woodford Rye, House Persimmon Simple, Lemon Juice and Bitters. With the weather warming up over the holidays, their patio is the best spot to enjoy cocktails and conversations.

šŸ„ƒ Cool cocktails and a Fort Worth-chic lounge make this a worthy spot to unwind from the busy-nesss of the holidays. Visit on a day when serve their stellar smash burgers. I was excited to see my buddy Jonathan Arguello working the grill at his burger pop-up recently. It paired nicely with an Old-Fashioned!

ā˜• Iā€™ve been frequenting for their Cafe de Olla and Mexican cookies and pastries. They are serving up a Coquito Latte just in time for the Holidays. Itā€™s a bright space and their Christmas tree filled with festive Mexican ornaments never fails to make me smile. Kudos to the brilliant mind that adorned the tree with mini Mercado bags.

šŸŽ„Itā€™s time for the Holly-Daze Christmas pop-up PRoPER- on Magnolia! ā€™Tis the season for sipping specialty holiday-themed cocktails like ā€œIs you house on fire, Clark?ā€, ā€œNow I have a machine gun. Ho Ho Ho!ā€ and ā€œYipee-ki-ay Mother Pluckerā€. Proper has decked their halls and you canā€™t help but feel the festive spirit as soon as you walk in!

šŸ„ƒ Make your spirits bright and give them a visit! We enjoyed the ā€œHolly Jolly Sh%t Showā€ with bright pomegranate and lemon flavors made festive with maple, orange and spiced tea. We also enjoyed the rich notes of the ā€œYippee-Ki Ay Mother Pluckerā€ with Christmas whiskey, amaro, orange and clove.

šŸŽ…The Santa and Willie themed vibes are the Christmas content that Iā€™m 100% here for and thereā€™s plenty of merchandise featuring these two beloved characters! Itā€™s a cozy little spot perfect for an intimate Christmas get together. āœØHappy Holly-daze y'all!

šŸ“They've expanded their hours and are now open on Mondays and every day from 4PM-12AM. 409 W Magnolia Ave Fort Worth, TX 76104.

Prost, y'all! It's getting cooler and time to find a great patio to hang out on. has an absolutely fantastic beer garden area that's a fun spot for friends and families to gather and enjoy tasty locally brewed beer.

šŸ» Right now they are celebrating Oktoberfest in a big way! They had events last weekend and the fun continues today and tomorrow! They will have live music, a brat (sausage) toss and a stein holding contest.
šŸ»Check out their weekly trivia, live music and co****le events.
šŸ» It's easy to find your new favorite beer there by sampling what's on tap! I love their Czech Ya Later - Czech Pilsner.
šŸ»They've added a traditional German sausage plate to their menu and it's a fantastic addition to their shareable Giant Bavarian Pretzel and beer cheese ! šŸ„Ø

When you want a straight-up good burger head on over to Charley's Old Fashioned Hamburgers. This spot has been around since 1953 and not much has changed since then. If youā€™ve ever driven by and been curious, know that your curiosity will be rewarded if you stop by.

šŸ”They are known for their terrific burgers and onion rings. Donā€™t let the hole-in-the wall vibe fool you they offer a variety of creative hamburgers but I stick to the classic every time I go and itā€™s always a solid choice. All the elements work together but what always stands out is the well seasoned patty.

šŸ”Theyā€™ve got picnic seating and a small play area. In all my years of going to I can say that they have never let me down. Thereā€™s plenty of options for burgers in Fort Worth and Charleyā€™s is definitely worth adding to your list! šŸ“4616 Granbury Rd., Fort Worth TX 76133

Que onda con ? This quaint spot tucked in the middle of Race Street has a vibe that is distinctly Fort Worth yet also evokes a hidden gem youā€™d find while traveling. Itā€™s a cozy, upscale unpretentious space combined with a fine dining experience that incorporates Latin ā€œAlta Cocinaā€ touches into seafood fare.

The clams from the seasonal menu were a delightful discovery of flavors. A complex mezcal infused broth with chorizo, caramelized onion and epazote provided the base for a decadent stack of clams generously garnished with verdant cilantro sprigs. The briny clams complemented the chorizo with the broth adding another layer of flavor. Slices of fluffy Bolillo bread allowed for maximum sopping up of the distinctive broth.

The beautifully composed aguachile from the chalkboard ceviche menu were another unique venture. Unlike a traditional ceviche the fish was not diced but served in a larger cut. The utter freshness of the fish served atop the Chile water came through in a way that would have gotten lost in a traditional ceviche. The red tostadas on the side were an accidental homey touch and took me back to having grown up with a stack of these crispy snacks always at the ready.

The fish special of the day was Mongchong which Iā€™ve never tried before. The texture is similar to halibut and was topped with a flavorful sauce and served with pearl black rice. This was one of two entrees offered, the other being a steak. Letā€™s just say, you are in good hands no matter what you order. The flan dessert measured up to the meal with fig morsels, honeycomb and toasted pepitas adorning this traditional dessert. In spite of the small menu, itā€™s clear that everything has been carefully considered and labored over.

The Spanish word ā€œondaā€ is used in many contexts with multiple meanings. At its root it means wave, in slang it means ā€œWhatā€™s Up?!ā€, or describes your vibe and it also describes an art movement. This word really reflects the same nuance and complexity to be found in the cuisine at La Onda. The ever-changing menu assures you will always have a unique experience and thatā€™s the wave I want to be on.

Wine and Brine on the patio just might be one of the best ways in Fort Worth to spend your summer Friday afternoonsā˜€ļø! This wine tasting series at Waters happens on Fridays from 4-5:30PM.

šŸ’Ø This weekly event happens on their COVERED, shaded patio that gets just enough breeze to make you forget the Texas heat.
šŸ· You get two glasses of wine served by a wine expert. These vary from week to week.
šŸ¦ Wines are paired with bites that are meant to complement the flavors in each bite. On this visit we had a bacon wrapped shrimp and a beautifully dressed oyster. We also got the most addictive bowl of popcorn to snack on as well!
šŸ‘Øā€šŸ³ Sometimes you might be lucky enough to have Chef Jon Bonnell himself chat with you about the food and wine!
šŸ“The cost is $25 and well worth it for two glasses of wine and small bites.
šŸ„‚ After the wine pairing, we kept the party going with the ā€œDirty Dozenā€ Happy Hour menu special on oysters. We couldnā€™t resist the delicious Hush Puppies so those made it to our table as well!
āœ’ļø Reservations recommended!

Carpenterā€™s Cafe makes some truly soul-satisfying food. They opened just before the pandemic shut-down and managed to not only survive but also expand their services.

šŸ„Ŗ Despite trying times, their food and story captivated local and regional media, their boozy banana pudding even garnered the attention of Texas Monthly. Their popular and word-of-mouth worthy smoked chicken salad is what put them on the map and thatā€™s where I started my long-overdue visit.

šŸ²Their soup and salad combo hit the spot for a hearty lunch. The overstuffed smoked chicken sandwich hits just the right notes of boldness with smokey flavors balanced by the creamy texture. The chicken gnocchi soup of the day completed the comfort food factor with a flavorful broth.

šŸ“You'll find cute storefront shop at 1116 Pennsylvania Ave. It is convenient to the Hospital District and the Near Southside. You order at the counter or call ahead and there are daily specials to choose from in addition to their regular menu.

šŸ¾ On top of their cafe and catering gigs they recently opened Carp's on the Magnolia. This food truck concept serves The Magnolia Wine Bar from Thursday to Saturday. The Carpenter's give their cozy cuisine a more cosmopolitan touch with the menu offered for wine bar customers. Signature dishes such as the Asian Zing Nachos complement gourmet boards, pizza, french fries and more.

šŸ’› I love it when food tastes like a hug and boy do these dishes deliver in flavor and soul! Give them a visit and put them on your regular restaurant rotation if you haven't already!

Oyster Happy Hour! Itā€™s a thing! If you love oysters get yourself to on Fridays and Saturdays from 2:30PM - 6:00PM when they offer 1/2 dozen for $12. If youā€™re like me, 1/2 dozen is just getting started so go ahead and order a dozen of these delightful bites!

šŸ„‚Take advantage of their Happy Hour specials while you are there which is also from 2:30PM-6:00PM daily. I can attest that their margarita is on point and earns a spot in my top 10. Theyā€™ve got plenty of small noshes to round out your happy hour. On this visit we enjoyed the deviled eggs, pork rinds and pimento cheese, all of which were excellent! Take a seat on their patio and enjoy all people watching on historic Exchange Avenue.

šŸ¤ Provender Hall is located right smack in the middle of the Stockyards. If you havenā€™t been to the Stockyards in a while. I encourage you to check out all the changes this popular tourist area has undergone. With Fort Worth favorites like Marcus Paslay (Clay Pigeon/Piatello/Provender Hall), Sarah Castillo (second FW Tacoheads location/Sidesaddle), Tim Love (Stockyards OG with Lonesome Dove/Love Shack/White Elephant and now Atico) and Kari Crowe (Melt Ice Creams) adding locations to the Stockyards it now makes it a draw for locals as well as tourists! So giddy yourself on up there soon!

White Rhino charges in as the latest addition to the coffee scene in Fort Worth. This welcoming spot adjacent to the Hotel Revel on 8th Avenue provides more than just beautiful brews; they also serve substantial menu items that range from indulgent to healthy. Their coffee program consists of traditional pours along with signature lattƩs. In addition to their coffee and tea offerings, you'll also find beer, wine, and brunch mimosas.

Their aƧaƭ bowl delivers on tropical flavors, and I'd pair it with their toasted coconut lattƩ for an island vibe. Their avocado toast is a perfect quick bite, and I loved it paired with the iced Sebastian lattƩ. The loaded sweet potato hash mixed a few sweet notes to balance the savory sausage and poached egg. Can you even call yourself a breakfast spot if you don't offer breakfast tacos? Not to worry, because they've got them on the menu, and I'd recommend the taco with bacon filling. The maple glazed chicken biscuit will fulfill your indulgent cravings with hearty pieces of fried chicken nestled on a fluffy biscuit with pickles and maple syrup bringing it all together in a satisfying bite. The rest of the menu is definitely worth exploring with lunch and brunch dishes. Those following special diets will appreciate gluten-free and vegetarian selections available.

White Rhino comes to Fort Worth by way of Cedar Hill, and it already felt like a tried-and-true spot on my last visit that found it buzzing with locals and students. It's got a polished yet cozy aesthetic and the layout works for solo laptop warriors as well as groups. I love the versatility of a spot that allows for creative coffee beverages, great eats, and mimosa bubbles! Cheers, y'all!

Iā€™m often getting asked for lunch recommendations and Iā€™ve got my go-to spots. I thought Iā€™d round up a variety of options that include some old and new favorites for your next lunch outing in case you need to mix things up a bit. Save this list for your next lunch outing.

1ļøāƒ£ Righteous Foods falls under the category of tried and true spots. Itā€™s always delicious and the service is excellent and they have enough variety on the menu to appeal to your food cravings. I love the meatballs and yucca fries but they also serve tacos, bowls, burgers and more.
2ļøāƒ£ The recently revamped offers just about every cuisine and is a great option for group dining. The Neopolitan style, brick fired pizza is delicious and large enough to share. offers hot and cold sandwich options.
3ļøāƒ£ The has a great lunch menu and included in the menu option is their AVOBLT which hits the spot on summerā€™s day. Not too heavy and it pairs nicely with a Hans Pils.
4ļøāƒ£ recently opened and itā€™s a gorgeous space. If you want to impress your lunch companion(s) with food and ambiance this is the place! They donā€™t have a lunch menu but I had the sopes recently and they were delicious and a perfect lunch bite.
5ļøāƒ£ Flying Fish is a Fort Worth classic at this point. If youā€™re looking to stay on the healthier side of lunch I highly recommend their Grilled Salmon salad. Add a frozen marg on a hot day.
6ļøāƒ£ If you donā€™t have time for a sit-down, no worries, stop by . This grab-and-go spot features lots of DELICIOUS and healthy lunch items. Choose from cold salads to heat and eat meals.
This is by no stretch an exhaustive list, just whatā€™s been on my lunch rotation lately. Iā€™ll do another round-up of lunch spots soon! Whatā€™s your favorite lunch place?!

Exciting TACO and dining news! One of the biggest losses to the Fort Worth dining scene was when relocated from Fort Worth to Deep Ellum. A few months ago owner, Gino Rojas, announced that he would be taking over the Taco Diner spot in . Cue the happy taco tears when I got an invite to their Taquiza last week! Flashback to 2012 when I experienced the magic of Revolver Taco Lounge for the first time. That meal made me want to direct ALL my blogging efforts to documenting the nuances of every dish and the family behind the food (thatā€™s truly a whole other story). Revolverā€™s cuisine reflects the culinary traditions of the Michoacan region in Mexico with the Rojas family members in the kitchen making everything from tortillas to molĆ© from scratch. Gino brings in a modern flair with wildly creative touches that elevate everything to a new level. As we walked into Revolver Gino was burning traditional copal and Iā€™m all for bringing the Mexico City/Tulum vibes to Sundance Square! Once inside, the soothing blush color space punctuated by bright blue and soft greens the first order of business was to reacquaint myself with their margaritas and they were as fantastic! The Tartara de Atun featured blue fin tuna, jocoque, caviar and totopos. An exquisite tuna tartar rests atop a creamy base that can best be compared to a buttermilk-tinged sour cream. The luxe addition of melt in your mouth caviar combined with totopos (aka the precursor to nacho chips) as the vessel which scoops all this together exemplifies the exceptional combination of ingredients. The next dish disrupted my childhood memories of eating fideo. Thin delicate noodles that were equally delicately sauced served next to a beautifully prepared pulpo were an unexpected pairing that worked wonderfully together. Yā€™all I havenā€™t even gotten to the tacos yet and Iā€™m running out of words here so I will make a separate post. Here's what you need to know, Revolver utilizes the highest quality of ingredients in their dishes and each taco is prepared on a hand-made corn tortillas. Revolver returns and they did not come to play. They will make their deserved mark on Fort Worth again!

I visited the newly opened last week for my Birthday DinneršŸŽ‰! In case you donā€™t know me, tacos and margaritas are my love languagešŸŒ®šŸ’–! I do a lot of food exploring especially when it comes to tacos, and their previous hole-in-the-wall, gas station location really paid off. On the first bite, they quickly became some of my favorites in town.

šŸ’™In their previous location there was a bright blue wall that helped visually define their corner of the gas station and I was so happy to see that same bright blue on accent walls at their new location as well. Storefront windows make their new spot bright and welcoming.

šŸŒ®The tacos are just as tasty as ever and theyā€™ve even added a full bar! The slightly fried and crunchy birria tacos with meat and cheese oozing out of them hit just right, especially when dunked in the accompanying rich consommĆ©. The double wrapped street tacos still deliver on flavor and freshness and if you order the plate it comes with rice and beans.

šŸøWith their full bar, now you can complement your tacos with margaritas and more. The margaritas are light and refreshing and even arrive with a festive Mexican flagšŸ‡²šŸ‡½!

šŸŒ±Mariachiā€™s Dine In also has an extensive and creative vegan menu that I look forward to trying more of!

šŸ“Their new location is 5724 Locke Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76107 and you can get your taco fix Tuesday through Saturday from 11AM - 10PM. Peace, love and tacos y'allāœŒļøšŸ’–šŸŒ®!

Letā€™s talk Happy Hour! My favorite hours of the day. On a recent Happy Hour excursion with , I rediscovered the fantastic happy hour . Hereā€™s a few reasons to move this spot up to the top of your Happy Hour list:
ā° Their Happy Hour starts early at 3PM and goes until 7PM.
šŸ³ All their small plates are 1/2 off. This includes their incredible roasted bone marrow topped with baked blue crab, masago, and scallions. Is it unlady-like to completely and wholeheartedly eat every last morsel of this dish? It doesn't matter because it is that good. This is an unexpected dish for a spot known for it's ramen, but I am here for it.
šŸ”„ Another stellar small plate that's a complete taste and texture adventure is the Tsukune. Don't be thrown off by their sausage on-a-stick appearance. They are full of flavor with a crisp outer layer and come with the most inventive sauce. Traditional tsukune are dipped in a raw egg mixture, in lieu of that Wabi House serves the sauce as a poached egg mixture that you break open and use for dipping. I've never had anything like it and it's one of my new favorite dishes.
šŸ„“Bacon. Hello, bacon-wrapped anything is special. The Okra Bacon is no exception. These tasty skewers are definitely worth adding to your Happy Hour order!
šŸ£ They also serve spot-on sushi that's delicate and flavorful with just enough garnishings to enhance each bite.
šŸøTheir Happy Hour cocktails are $5 and they are wonderful!
šŸļø Their rooftop patio is super chic and the perfect spot to spend a warm afternoon!
šŸœ I know I haven't even talked about their amazing ramen. But, if you know, you know and that's a whole separate post. šŸ“1229 8th. Avenue Suite 227, FWTX 76104
šŸ„‚ Cheers, y'all!

21/05/2021

Yā€™all Sidesaddle Saloon is this wanna-be cowgirls dream! This compact cocktail bar and lounge takes Fort Worthā€™s Western heritage aesthetic and moves it to a modernly captivating place.

šŸ„ Set off of Mule Alley in the historic Stockyards, this spot is worthy of destination dining. The aesthetic is minimal cowgirl elegance with warm wood tones, drippy chandeliers, requisite trophy heads and vintage saddles and bridles brightened by the just-right shade of turquoise. A large cowgirl mural brings the cowgirl vibes to the high-ceilinged dining area. Speaking of cowgirls, all the drinks are named after cowgirls and the Mitzi Lucas Riley is a bright combination of Gin, Pamplemousse RosĆ©, lemon, grapefruit syrup and Prosecco.

šŸ³ Side Saddle serves a small plates menu, ā€œTexas Tapasā€ that winningly complement their craft cocktails. The country ham and pimento cheese plate is something your sophisticated Southern Aunt would assemble for you on her everyday china if you paid her a visit (and if you had a sophisticated Southern Aunt!). The country ham is as delicate and salted as any slice of Italian cured prosciutto. The pimento hits all the right notes and the briny Pickled Vegetables balance the richness of the plate. The toasted sourdough allows you to compose your perfect bite. The hearty smoked brisket flatbread reminds me of pan de campo with the toppings giving it a fancy chuckwagon feel. Biscuits, deviled eggs, a selection of sweets and more round out the menu offerings and I honestly look forward to many return visits and trying more dishes.

šŸ„ƒ This is a great spot for brunch especially with the live music they book on Sundayā€™s for their . Itā€™s a great Happy Hour spot as well from Tuesday-Friday from 3-6PM. Sidesaddle proclaims itself as the ā€œFinest Saloon in Texasā€ and I tip my hat to you in agreement!

11/05/2021

After closing its doors in April 2020 re-emerges today as Cowtownā€™s specialty food store. It feels like a curated boutique with nostalgic touches when you walk in. Thereā€™s space at the entrance dedicated to products and gifts made by local makers. The classic Roy Pope deep green is brightened by a retro shade of aqua for the wooden display shelves. These shelves hold a variety of groceries that range from the everyday to specialty with preference given to Texas-made products. Fresh produce is beautifully displayed with all the essentials for home cooks. The footprint of the store is essentially the same as it was before and youā€™ll have no trouble finding the butcher and prepared foods section. A quick peak into the butcher counter reveals the same gorgeous cuts of beef that you could reliably find in years past.

Chef Bria Downey, James Beard semi-finalist, serves as culinary director and she's crafted a range of menu options. Thereā€™s made-to-order items that include hot Italian sandwiches on from-scratch focaccia bread, deli sandwiches and salads. Thereā€™s also a prepared hot foods counter that includes family-friendly options. Youā€™ll find a huge emphasis on the beverage program at Roy Pope with a surprisingly large collection of wines and curated beer selection with a sommelier/cicerone on staff to help guide you.

The addition of a coffee bar, small seating area and large outdoor covered patio are welcome ones. Try the RPG cold brew made with Louā€™s New Orleans Style coffee with bold chicory flavor (sold in the store of course). This Vietnamese iced coffee packed a pleasant punch. The patio is the perfect spot to catch up with friends over a coffee, wine or beer. Look for special events like BBQ feasts and cooking classes. Above all, owner-Operator Chris Reale emphasized that customer-service is at the forefront of their mission with a respect for the heritage of RP while bringing it into the future. I'll see y'all on that patio!

.oberhere brings Filipino flavors to Fort Worth with their new food truck parked at 1165 Eighth Avenue. Owner Mark Guatelara chatted with me recently about his new food truck concept. After being furloughed during Covid he was surprised and frustrated at the lack of late-night food options in the Near Southside. So, he took his culinary talents and turned them towards his Filipino roots. He acknowledged that thereā€™s not much awareness about Filipino food in the area but if passion counts for anything that wonā€™t be the case for long. Ober Here offers a variety of Filipino-style rice bowls and let me tell you these hearty meals are tasty!

šŸš On this occasion, we went with the homemade spam and chicken BBQ. These bowls hit all the right notes as far as taste, texture, presentation and flavor go. The homemade spam combined beautifully with the fried egg and lots and lots of garlic. Rice and a bright papaya salad helped balance the whole dish. The chicken thigh bowl had a nice smoky flavor from being grilled and was supremely satisfying when combined with the other elements. Chef Mark also shared that the name and logo is a nod to his beloved Filipino culture. Ober here refers to the way Filipinoā€™s would say ā€œover hereā€. Also, if you look closely at the logo the pursed lips of the emoji-like character are meant to resemble how Filipinoā€™s purse their lips and ā€œpointā€ with their mouths. The truck is open from 6pm - midnight (1am weekends). Order online with DoorDash and UberEats or pre-order for pick up through their square site. See yā€™all Ober Here!
