Katavi is known for fantastic game, with vast herds of buffalo roaming the plains; also elephant, lion, leopard, crocodiles and hippo. The park really comes into it's own between June and October which is when the camp operates. With water sources becoming increasingly hard to find hippo's crowd in their hundreds into the last water holes, and crocodiles dig big caves into river banks to aestivate through the hot season. Katavi is the only place you can see such phenomena. Chada Katavi is a camp that aims to get you out there to really feel Africa. Explore on walking safaris, game drives in open 4WD vehicles, night drives, or perhaps head out into the bush for a night fly camping under the stars.

Looking for a safari destination that's purely wild and off the beaten track? Ruaha National Park, based in Southern Tanzania, receives only 1% of all tourists visiting Tanzania yet holds 10% of all Africa's wild lions. It is a predator's paradise in the dry winter months that also holds good populations of leopard, endangered painted dogs and cheetah.

June in Botswana is a good time to find the Painted Wolves (aka "Wild Dogs) denning. Generally known to move huge distances very quickly, June finds them hanging around a certain area until the pups reach an age they can follow the adults on hunts.

Okavango Explorers Camp has one or two known den sites and therefore sightings of the Painted Wolves are almost a daily occurrence here. The den sites themselves are very fragile, given the endangered status of the Painted Wolves, but you will often find them close to the den site or hunting.

Fascinating creatures they have a very strong family bond and interactions between the pack keep sightings interesting to watch.

Mara Plains Camp - Masai Mara

Mara Plains Camp is a one-of-a-kind camp located in the private 13,300-hectare Olare
Motorogi Conservancy, just on the Maasai Mara National Reserve’s northern boundary.
This intimate camp, one of Kenya’s only three Relais & Châteaux properties (other being sister properties ol Donyo Lodge and Mara Nyika Camp), blends the finest in wildlife viewing with the absolute best of safari hospitality and guiding.

No other Maasai Mara based camp offers the extensive traversing area of Mara Plains Camp, with access to a total of 40,000 hectares of private conservancy land and the world-renowned Maasai Mara, home to the Great Migration.

The Olare Motorogi Conservancy is reputed to have the lowest vehicle density in the Maasai Mara region, while also having the highest concentration of big cats
anywhere in Africa. The camp is a sanctuary for resident species by day and night, including many of the Maasai Mara’s 300 bird species. After dark, larger mammals
frequent the camp and Maasai warriors es**rt guests to and from their suites. Hippos snorting and leopards barking often provide the night’s chorus.

The new camp in the Okavango Delta is officially open! We are excited to be visiting it in June and will come back with further information however it is looking stunning!

Karangoma is the result of a partnership with local elder Olatotse Sarefo and is rooted in Bukakhwe San and Hambukushu culture.

The name itself is a Sembukushu word describing ‘drum beating, ancestral healing, bringing good future to the tribe, or, when one is ill, cure dancing’. It is exactly this essence of healing and harmony that the camp seeks to offers its guests in their reconnection with nature and traditional cultures.

And what better place to do that than the productive and beautiful Okavango Delta where this small, exclusive camp offers the opportunity for some truly special game viewing and connection with the natural world. Karangoma’s 6 tented suites are hidden on a shaded peninsula with gorgeous views out across the floodplains.

Okavango Delta - Vumbura Plains

** Speak to us about local specials for South Africans with Wilderness Safaris **

The Vumbura Plains Private Wilderness Area is found in the northern-eastern Okavango Delta adjoining the Moremi Game Reserve. Its prime position in the dry savannah interior, set on one of the main channels that feeds the Delta, means year-round adventures on land and water. Contemporary and luxurious, the camp is as lavish and lush as its beautiful surroundings, which are home to an abundant and diverse array of wildlife, including large – and small – predators. The 60,000-hectare (148,263-acre) private concession is leased from five villages through the Okavango Community Trust (OCT), a partnership that spans many successful years of impactful conservation tourism in the area.

The annually inundated grasslands of the Delta surrounding Wilderness Vumbura Plains are locally referred to as melapo, and deliver prolific seasonal viewing: elephants, giraffes, impala, sable antelope, kudu, zebra, common waterbuck as well as reedbuck, tsessebe, wildebeest, red lechwe and Cape buffalo. Following this exceptional diversity of ungulates is a vast array of predators, including iconic African species such as lion, leopard, the occasional cheetah, African wild dog and wildcat. This all results in an immensely rich and thrilling wildlife experience. Hippo pods and basking crocodiles can often be spotted in and along the waterways, while birding is exceptional all year round.

One of the most beautiful camps we have visited and with incredible game and predator sightings (especially the elusive leopard).

Mchenja is the local name for ebony, and the camp is tucked into a shady ebony grove beside the Luangwa River in the heart of South Luangwa National Park.

Pull yourself away from camp to track big cats through the bush with hushed voices and beating hearts. Night drives are always rewarding, with the bush revealing a different nocturnal surprise every time. At the right time of year, this is one of the best camps in the park for seeing carmine bee-eaters.

Is there a more iconic picture of Africa?

ol Donyo Lodge is located on the Maasai-owned Mbirikani Group Ranch, comprising
of 110,000 hectares of wilderness between Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks and
bordering Chyulu Hills National Park.

This stunningly beautiful area is incredibly diverse and often has spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro. No other lodge in Africa offers such a wide range of experiences, in such a private setting. As one of Kenya’s only three Relais & Châteaux properties (other being sister properties Mara Plains Camp and Mara Nyika Camp), the lodge is perched on a hillside with views of East Africa’s classic savannahs below.
