A few days ago, we were greeted by stratospheric clouds again 🥰 these are more rare, than seeing the northern lights, so if you have seen this clouds, you have hit the jackpot in the arctic 🩷

ATTENTION‼️

Tourism in Tromsø has grown a lot more compared to previous years. In the middle of the high season, we are experiencing a lot of tourists driving off the road this winter.

When renting a car, please follow the road signs.
We have seen tourists driving on narrow cycle roads, driving into a ditch, driving in a blizzard, driving on the wrong side of the road, stopping in the middle of a road/roundabout 😅
All these things can cause chaotic and very unsafe driving conditions, for yourself and for locals as well.
If you’re unsure how to drive a car in harsh winter conditions, consider booking your tours with transport included❗️

NYE spent under the northern lights 🥂🎆
I had this amazing idea of grabbing the sliding mat and sliding down the hill at midnight so we could literally slide into 2025, but two minutes before midnight, another group of people apparently had the same idea 🤣

Still did it, watched the fireworks from a premium spot on the hill and slid into 2025, happy new year everyone 🎊

Tromsø’s panorama 🤩

What it’s like living in the north?
Last year, I would have said a different answer than what I say now.
It’s an amazing thing, having to live with Mother Nature’s different weather conditions.
In the summer, it’s bright 24/7 where you have absolute no control about the time 😂 on sunny days, everyone tries to make the most out of it, enjoying the outdoors while everyone fills up the rainy days differently.
I have to say, that after the midnight sun period ended (the summer felt like 3 weeks), I wasn’t looking forward to winter. It was for me, a constant battle with myself not knowing when the snow will come & having to “battle” the time before the polar night hits feels like a race against time 😂 you can feel it on everybody’s energy as well. I also took the transmission to polar night harder this season, not looking forward to the 24/7 darkness but now that we are in the middle of it, I can’t imagine what it’s like living in brightness 😂
Not speaking of the many storms we have had this season, while last winter we only had 2 storms and had a beautiful winter.
The end of the year is approaching which means that polar night is also close to end. I can’t wait to be blinded by the sun while being on ski’s or snowshoes in the snow 😎 Last year, I honestly got so emotional by seeing my own shadow again, such an emotional experience getting the sun back after polar night.
So, basically, everything depends on the fast changing conditions here and you gotta make the best out of it and respecting Mother Nature’s weather conditions. 🫶🏻

The Lyngen Alps is such an underrated destination up here in the north!

We visited Blåvatnet (Blue lake) yesterday. It was a beautiful hike at the beginning for the first km, but after that it’s just rocks after rocks and even bigger rocks at the end 🤣
It’s a 4km long hike (8km there and back), but without hard elevations!

It was worth visiting the lake without the crowds in the most colourful season of the year, definitely recommend!

This month I have been home after almost 1,5 year living in Norway. I had such a great time going back to summer a bit and visiting friends and family.

But from now on, back to Norway postings! Can’t wait for the upcoming season 🤩

The northern lights season has started again!

If you want to enjoy some warmer weather and not freeze your fingers off & want to avoid tourist crowds, this is the best time to visit northern Norway.

We were very lucky being able to see the Green Lady dancing through the night sky with a colourful show for 8 days in a row!!

The magic of the calm Norwegian fjords 🤩

We bought an inflatable kayak the other day and honestly, it’s one of the best purchases ever!!
It was the second time trying it out and we got lucky by seeing a harbour porpoise swimming next to us 🤩 They are pretty common in the Norwegian fjords, as the name says it already, they live in shore waters, close to rivers and harbours so you might get lucky spotting them as well.
The ocean is amazing and we should protect it at all costs 🫶🏻

Lyngen, you magical beauty 😍

The Lyngen Alps are just about 1h away from Tromsø, you take a the ferry from Breivikeidet to Svensby, in the summer there are more ferries going per day.
One of the most popular hikes is the easier hike to Blåvatnet (the Blue Lake).

We decided to go on a less popular (and much harder) hike to Rottenvikvatnet, combined with Rottenvikfossen (waterfall) 😍
There’s plenty of parking space, easy to camp ⛺️. The hike up to the lake goes on a veeerrryyy steep mountain, it took us about 2,5 hours to get to the lake but the view was 100% worth it. There weren’t many people, but a lot of sheep on the way 🤗

Rottenvikfossen is an easier hike which is about 1,3km from the parking place. A magical glacier waterfall.

The whole Lyngen alps has a beautiful scenery, plenty of places to camp next to beaches as well, however, they are now in the summer more popular along people with campers.

Still an absolute must visit when visiting the north!
