(2)

The idea of creating a unique travel company was conceived around a campfire alongside the Zambezi River, the brainchild of a small group of friends who were all veteran Safari Guides. The company they founded, World Wildlife Journeys, is committed to creating an unparalleled travel experience for people who share our passion for wild places and the creatures that inhabit them. From humble beginni

ngs, circa 1992, conducting small group safaris across Africa, we have grown to offer unique wildlife encounters on three continents, yet we remain committed to our core beliefs. We offer our travellers the best quality wildlife encounters, in the best locations on earth, and in the company of the best Professional Guides working today. Our objective is to create life-changing journeys that have a positive impact on the natural environment while uplifting the wilderness communities we visit.

Following a delightful breakfast, we embarked on a picturesque journey from Arusha to our next resting place through the breathtaking landscapes of Lake Manyara National Park. This renowned park is a sanctuary for the majestic flamingos that grace its serene waters. During the wet season, these elegant birds form flocks of thousands along the lake's edges, creating a mesmerizing sight. Although they are less prevalent during the dry season, Lake Manyara remains home to over 400 bird species, making it a haven for bird enthusiasts. A visit to this park promises a delightful spectacle of over 100 bird species on any given day.

There is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar; I love not Man the less, but Nature more.

Something we have always known that a single colony of termites lasts 3 generations and has a finite lifespan of about 50 years but the some of the mounds they construct clearly have not been built in just 50 years. It stands to reason then that these larger termite mounds have been inhabited by successive colonies with intervals of dormancy in between. Thanks to modern science we now know that some have been in intermittent use for over 32 000 years! What this means is given a 30 year interval between colonies, these structures have been home to 1200 generations of termites! “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors- we borrow it from our children’s, children!”

There is growing evidence that termites have a substantial, but still poorly understood, role in the carbon cycle.

Hello from Uganda!

Did you know Uganda offers one of the greatest diversities of primates of any country on Earth, and most primates have a similar social order led by an alpha male. Typically, these males were believed to be the strongest and most aggressive in the group, but modern research has revealed a more complex and nuanced view of who gets to "rule the roost." It turns out that the most successful alpha males are the ones with the best EQ, building coalitions with other dominant males by sharing food and investing time in grooming less dominant members of the troop. The tyrannical males might dominate for a short period of time but are always displaced by a coalition of more reasonable males whose strategy tends to be more successful in the long run!
