Homestead Museum in City of Industry has two structures, an 1870 Carpenter Gothic structure named the Workman House, and the 1927 Temple Residence (“La Casa Nueva”).

William and Nicolasa Workman purchased part of the Rancho La Puente and built an adobe house in 1842, which was remodeled to its current version. The Workmans established themselves as cattle ranchers.

Their grandson, Walter Temple, and his wife Laura, bought the Workman House and surrounding land in 1917. They built their own home next to the Workman House in a Spanish Colonial Revival style.

Sadly, both families lost their wealth in bad financial investments. The City of Industry purchased the property in the 1960s and 1970s. The Homestead Museum opened in May 1981.
