Have to see it in person to appreciate it! Michelangelo’s artwork in the Sistine Chapel, Vatican City - 2025 Manitou Travel Club

Did you know that if Michelangelo had had his way, he would never have painted his greatest masterpiece? The artist considered himself a sculptor rather than a painter, and was highly reluctant to take on the task of frescoing the Sistine Chapel.

But you can’t say no to the pope, and so - despite constant grumbling - Michelangelo set about creating the greatest display of human genius the world of art had ever seen over four years of backbreaking effort.

The Sistine Chapel is famous for its extensive collection of Renaissance art which was painted by some of the world’s most famous artists, including Michelangelo, Ghirlandaio, Perugino and Botticelli.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2023-24 NHL Regular Season Hockey Pool.

1st place - Kirby Bridges - 1654 points (sold by Fischer Cavers) - $797.50 and three free play-off pools.
(Kirby is pictured bottom left on our trip to Italy & Greece in 2014.)
2nd place - Logan Moffatt - 1649 points (sold by Abigail Deamel) - $478.50
3rd place - Tatum Honke - 1644 points (sold by Grant Caldwell) -$319.00

2024 Play-Off pools are now available from any travel club member. Deadline for entries is Monday April 22 at 6 pm.

That's a wrap on the NHL regular season! The Manitou Travel Club's regular season pool winner was Kirby Bridges who beat Logan Moffatt by 5 points. Kirby and Logan are both alumni of the travel club and both have visited Italy & Greece in past years!

The 2024 NHL Play-Off play-off pool is now available. Members of next years travel club now have hard copies of the pool and one can also be emailed if requested through Facebook or [email protected]. The deadline is only a few days away, Monday April 22 at 6 pm. Pools can be given back to the sellers, mailed to Box 553 in Manitou, or emailed when completed.

Pick-up days at Nellie McClung Collegiate will be Monday February 26 and Wednesday February 28 from 4-6 pm. Cost is $15 per calendar. Dainty trays are $38 with 12 different types of baking and monster cookies or triple chocolate chip cookies are $10 per dozen. Just a few days away from the Manitou Travel Club's Christmas baking table at the Manitou Christmas Market from 1-6 in the Manitou Opera House on Saturday (December 9). There will be something for everybody from pies, cinnamon buns, assorted Christmas dainties, cookies, muffins, brownies, Oreos, marshmallow square, fruitcake, Christmas pudding, tarts, gingerbread men, jams, nuts and bolts and many, many more! So come on down and take care of all your holiday baking needs in one stop!

The travel club is presently canvassing the local communities of Darlingford, Manitou and LaRiviere for next year's Manitou Kinsmen Club Community calendars. Calendars are $15 and will be available for delivery in February 2024 (the calendar runs March through February).
