Air India has unveiled the fresh orders it placed for 10 A350 widebody and 90 single-aisle A320 Family aircraft.

Besides, Air India has opted for Airbus’ Flight Hour Services-Component (FHS-C) for its growing A350 fleet.

The services package will help optimize the performance and reliability of Air India’s growing A350 fleet.

In 2023, the Tata Group-owned airline had ordered 40 A350 and 210 A320 Family aircraft.

Air India’s total order book for Airbus aircraft now stands at 344 with six A350-900s having already been delivered.

The A321neo is the largest member of Airbus’ best-selling A320neo Family and the A350 is the modern and efficient widebody aircraft and the long-range leader in the 300-410 seater category. Air India commenced its A350 operations in January 2024.

The new automatic refund rules officially took effect on October 28, 2024. They apply to flights to, from, or within the United States on foreign or domestic carriers.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) now requires airlines to provide automatic refunds to passengers if their flight is canceled, significantly delayed, or experience a “significant change” for any reason—including “uncontrollable” factors such as weather.

The DOT defines the term “significant” with specific cutoff times, itinerary changes, and other nuances:

🗽A delay in a flight’s scheduled departure or arrival times is defined as more than three hours for a domestic flight or six hours for an international one.

🗽Passengers arriving at or leaving from an airport different than their original itinerary.

🗽Increases in the number of connections.

🗽A passenger’s class of service is downgraded.

🗽Connections at different airports or flights on different planes that are less accessible or accommodating to a person with a disability.

The new DOT rule takes the burden off passengers to navigate notoriously confusing and vague guidelines to get refund requests off the ground.

🚨 The key condition is the rule applies only if alternative transportation or travel vouchers are not available or are rejected by the passenger.
If an airline can book you on another flight—on the same day or even the next—and you accept it, then the new rules don’t apply. But if you refuse the rebooking, then you are entitled to the automatic refund.

Besides, it applies to baggage delays. Fliers who file a mishandled baggage report with the airline and whose delayed luggage isn’t delivered to them within 12 hours of their domestic flight or 15 to 30 hours of their international flight (depending on the flight’s length) can receive a full refund of their baggage fee.

Passengers are also entitled to automatic refunds for in-flight services they paid for but the airline failed to provide.

Starting December 1, Delta Air Lines passengers in first class on select flights can order a cheeseburger from Shake Shack, the cult burger chain, as their in-flight meal.

Initially, the burgers will only be available on flights from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), and the airline confirmed it will introduce the Shake Shack option on other U.S. routes in 2025.

Up to seven days before (and up to 24 hours before) a flight departing from BOS, passengers can order the cheeseburger. This order is delivered while in-flight, at 30,000 feet, and only available to First Class passengers on routes that are more than 900 miles.
