Meet Dan, your Private Guide & Host
Born and bred in Cape Town South Africa, Dan was brought up exploring all that this incredible city and country has to offer. His outgoing personality and active lifestyle has continuously encouraged him to keep exploring new and exciting ventures, from overnight hikes, trail running routes and stand up paddle boarding, to immersive experiences within diverse cultures, nature and Africa’s wildlife.
After completing a Postgraduate in Sports Management at the University of Cape Town, Dan took the opportunity of traveling abroad, backpacking through Europe, South East Asia, and America as well working at a summer camp in Wisconsin. These experiences provided great insight into the different cultures and environments he found himself in. Having traveled abroad as well as Southern Africa rather extensively, he came to know and appreciate this beautiful part of the world that we get to call home. His passion and enthusiasm to meet new people and share his home with foreign guests is what influenced his decision to become a Private Guide. Dans approachable nature and extensive knowledge of Southern Africa makes him an exceptional Private Guide and invaluable to the SAFFA Team.
The long awaited warmth trickles in as the days stretch out to be longer and longer, allowing us more play time in the outdoors and into the ocean everyday.
With Summer comes the South East trade wind that blows the warm surface water, on the West Coast out too sea causing the colder deep water to rise. This is called upwelling. Upwelling then causes the seawater close to our shores and in our many majestic bays to clear up offering unbelievable under water visibility for diving and snorkelling.
The picturesque turquoise ocean comes alive and becomes ever so inviting in the heat of the day.
The rapid drop in sea temperature caused by upwelling means the water is colder in the summer months then in the winter months. Now don’t be deferred because along with our partners we ensure you have state of the art gear and most importantly a state of the art WARM wetsuit that will with out a doubt keep you cosy and give you ample time to explore the Great African Seaforest, the worlds largest under water forest whilst making friends with our Cape Fur Seals. What brings our snorkelling, adventure free diving and seal parties to an end is more so then not the fact that you are just exhausted from an experience that transports you to the beautiful ocean underworld, and as soon as you jump out you will be welcomed by the warm air, tantilizing sunlight and a hot cup of coffee while you replay your encounters with our amazing Cape Sea Life.

Travel is back!
We are so stoked to have been hitting the road for the past 5 months, in our element, hosting guests on numerous trips and showcasing the raw landscapes of South Africa with unvarnished, true to the bone experiences. The long awaited lockdown era came to end in an instinct and we have been on the go ever since. Back then we knew the day would come as we hung on till the end and couldn’t be happier with where we are now.
On recent trips we have hosted amazing guests and it’s been so exciting to introduce them to partners and friends from our industry along the way, sharing awesome stories as we went. We always knew the lockdown would come to an end and we always knew the time would come when we would look back at lockdown and share moments of the time, even though back then it seemed impossible. Now that the new days are upon us, the feeling is euphoric, better than ever imagined. Sliding down dunes on fat bikes, kayaking at the foothills of Table Mountain, snorkelling amongst sea life, sipping on silky wine, indulging in home made samoosas, to discovering new paths above Cape Town, experiencing every element The Cape has to offer, and above all else meeting lekker locals along the way!
We are grateful to all our friends and partners, to have such an incredible, diverse country we call home and for the opportunity to share it with people from around the world.
South Africa is our playground, travel is our game, and hosting is our passion.

Buffel - the Southern Elephant Seal, recently made an appearance in the Deep South and our guide Paul managed to capture the action. If you’re not familiiar with the story of Buffel, this 1200+kg male Southern Elephant Seal graces us with his presence to lay on various beaches around the Cape for his yearly moult. He is said to have arrived in Cape Town in 2014 and has since been gracing the Cape coastline with his presence, showing up at various beaches around the Western Cape. As the owner, director and head guide of SAFFA Tours, I, Josh, have spent many years exploring the southern tip of Africa. Growing up on the East Coast of South Africa, in the small town of Hillcrest, I began surfing from the age of six. Since then, my relationship with the ocean and all the aquatic activities imaginable has remained unbreakable. Having mastered fishing, surf skiing, and paddle boarding over the years, as well as developing an affinity for hiking, travelling, history, and culture, I want to share it all with you.
Even with 34 countries ticked off my bucket list, Cape Town is still incomparable.
