We are a sea kayaking and adventure holiday centre based in Playa Blanca, in the south of Lanzarote, open September to May. We specialise in guided trips for small groups, exploring the lesser known areas of Lanzarote and the Chinijo Archipelago in the North. Lanzarote is an outstanding area of the Canaries in which to paddle and was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1993. The pristine environment i

s a joy to discover, above the water in the kayak and below the water with a snorkel mask. We customise your trips according to the days you have available to paddle and your level of experience. For those who are less experienced, we offer a full paddling instruction before the trip. We enjoy sharing our knowledge and passion for sea kayaking and the environment with our clients and we look forward to welcoming you to Lanzarote so you can return home with wonderful memories of this unexpectedly unique place. For those looking to improve their kayak skills or complete BCU training and assessments, we also offer British Canoeing awards.

Wow. We finished the sea kayak leadership training course, and it's been a while since I had so much fun on the water 🤣🤣 There was lots of incident management with different scenarios, often hilarious. The final day was such amazing fun - Celia was playing the part of an arrogant, over-confident paddler ("I'm 5 star don't you know, I know it all"....followed up later by "Oh right, when you said 5 star, I thought you meant am I in a 5 star hotel!"), Andrew was playing the part of someone who's watched a lot of YouTube videos and thinks he's an expert, and I was playing an Instagram influencer, obsessed with getting the perfect selfie and paying absolutely no attention whatsoever to the guide. Andrew and I were hell bent on getting 'content' for our channels. We had an absolute riot and I'm already looking forward to the next course - it'll have to wait till next January, but that's plenty of time to practise our roles! Oh, and there was rockhopping and some other paddling fluff, but the acting was the main part of the week 🤣🤣🤣🤣 So if you want to do some leadership training with lots of fun scenarios and have a lot of laughs in the process, you know where we are!

Happy new year everyone!!! We kicked off our year yesterday with day 1 of a 5 day sea kayak leadership course. Lots of smiles, fun and laughter, and lots of serious learning too of course! And a nice mix of returning and new clients 😊😊 Practising leadership skills in sunny warm weather is certainly a nice way to start off the year at an otherwise dark and gloomy time! 🌞🌞🌞

Our last trip of the year was a beautiful paddle to one of our favourite places, La Graciosa island. We did the east trip, paddling out from Orzola and landing at Pedro Barba, before heading to Caleta de Sebo for lunch and an ice cream (of course!!) and then paddling back from there.
That's a wrap for 2024 paddling - thank you to all our wonderful clients for making it such a memorable and special year. Happy Christmas to everyone and we'll catch you on the other side! 😃

Some great photos from a rockhopping trip a few days ago - this trip is always a firm favourite! The best part was the big set that rolled in just in time to make it really interesting on one of the passes 🤣🤣

Yikes! I have been amiss with trip photos, so here's a batch from Arrecife. Bizarrely, most of them are of me. It was the day I forgot my (prescription) sunglasses, so Juan had to take most of the photos 😄😄 I think he felt sorry for me having very few kayaking photos of myself, since when I'm there I'm always the one taking the photos so I don't get many of me! It was a lovely day, with lots of nice downwind fun, tapas and ice cream, and lovely hot sunshine. The blazing sun part not being so great if you don't have your sunglasses with you!

Anyone still looking for a unique card to send to seafaring types this Christmas? In addition to my owl greetings card series, I also have this popular guillemot colony and pair of European shags, both of which I drew after visits to the Farne Islands in Northumberland. The original of the shags drawing is currently hanging in the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh until 11th December if you fancy a look! You can get them on my Etsy page, along with other designs like snow leopards and Arctic foxes!:

Tuesday's trip to Papagayo was a lot of fun! There was a nice swell giving us some action at the blowholes, the beaches were largely nice and empty due to the morning cloud and the swell making swimming difficult, and we had hot afternoon sunshine. Juan even tested out his SEA FLOW Designs floating sunglasses tips after rolling (there's a sequence of photos showing what happened at the blowhole 😄) and they worked beautifully! As we paddled past the beaches we watched the waves crashing in, which was spectacular. Papagayo can be such a varied trip - some days flat calm and summer holiday vibe, and some days clapotis, blowholes and surfing at the cape 🥰

Part 2 of yesterday's trip in the Chinijo archipelago! These photos were taken around the island of Montaña Clara. Sadly, as is typical with photos taken on a small camera, they just don't do the area justice. We had nice big seas on the west coast, with the waves slow-mo rising up the cliffs before spilling back down again and sending clapotis back our way. It was really spectacular and awe-inspiring paddling there and I felt very small. We lost sight of each other in the waves a lot, perhaps why the waves look small in the photos, because I had to wait between waves to get photos of anyone. Otherwise I would have just been taking photos of water which isn't that interesting 😄 The swell was only 1.4 metres, but the waves and clapotis were crashing together to form almost 2 metre waves which was a LOT of fun and bounciness! And then we got picked up for our lift back to Orzola. Aaaah, that's the life!

I'll upload the photos from yesterday's trip in 2 parts. Because I'm back in Lanzarote and I take a lot more photos than Juan - I think I have a problem 😄😄 But my excuse this time is that we did the trip up to the island of Montaña Clara, which was stunning. We had perfect conditions for it -a very light 5 knot wind, and a very westerly main swell at 1.4 metres and only period 10, which we would really class as more of a local wind wave than a swell. Which means very easy conditions. The swell from the north was only 0.3 metres period 12, so this was a fantastic day to get up into the marine reserve of the Chinijo archipelago. We had absolutely gorgeous flat calm waters for some of the trip, and some nice waves as well, and nice big seas on the west coast of Montaña Clara with lots of clapotis. Photos of that part will follow in another post - for now, it's part 1 of the trip! We paddled out from Orzola in the north of Lanzarote, crossed to La Graciosa island and paddled round the east coast of La Graciosa before crossing to Montaña Clara.

Now at the north east of La Graciosa island, finished lunch and getting ready to paddle north!

A few shots from this past week when we were running a Coastal Sea Kayak Award course. There was theory (navigation and tidal planning), lots of practice and lots of scenarios! Now we're back to trips and the next course will be our sea kayak leadership training in January, followed by a rough water skills course. Lots of exciting things coming up!!

Photos from that other trip I was gutted to miss, which was to the Chinijo archipelago. It was a perfect day for it - the gang paddled out from Orzola on Lanzarote, crossed to La Graciosa, stopped at a beach and then continued on around the wild and rocky north eastern coast of La Graciosa, crossing to the island of Montaña Clara. And then a pickup by the water taxi to get back to Orzola! A great day out on the water, available only to the lucky few whose visits coincide with the right conditions for it!!

Ok so this isn't kayaking related, and isn't even seabird related! (I was going to do seabirds but got sidetracked by owls.....) I've drawn this set of owls and have put them on greetings cards - so if you know anyone who likes birds or owls and want to give them a really different card (that can also double as a mini piece of art), check out my website or Etsy page - details below! Next year the intention is to do seabirds! Not sure if it'll happen 😄😄

Juan modelling his floating sunglasses tips - they're great! They help the sunglasses stay on and if they do come off, they float. And you can hang the sunglasses round your neck if the sun goes away! Easy to wear with a helmet as well. These are very popular!

Photos from a trip along the imposing Famara cliffs, 672m at their highest point. A lovely misty morning with flat calm water and barely any swell means that you can get close to the shipwreck, see the reefs through the clear water as you're paddling over them, and get very close to the cliffs themselves and the blowholes. This is a very unusual thing for the Famara trip! I was gutted to miss this one as I'm in the UK to hand in some art for an exhibition. As you'll see when I do the next post, there was another trip that I'm gutted I missed. Sigh. So I have to live vicariously like the rest of you and enjoy the trip via the photos!
