Sea Kayaking Lanzarote Sea kayaking centre based in Playa Blanca. Guided trips and courses in the Lanzarote archipelago Please contact us for details.

We are a sea kayaking and adventure holiday centre based in Playa Blanca, in the south of Lanzarote, open September to May. We specialise in guided trips for small groups, exploring the lesser known areas of Lanzarote and the Chinijo Archipelago in the North. Lanzarote is an outstanding area of the Canaries in which to paddle and was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1993. The pristine environment i

s a joy to discover, above the water in the kayak and below the water with a snorkel mask. We customise your trips according to the days you have available to paddle and your level of experience. For those who are less experienced, we offer a full paddling instruction before the trip. We enjoy sharing our knowledge and passion for sea kayaking and the environment with our clients and we look forward to welcoming you to Lanzarote so you can return home with wonderful memories of this unexpectedly unique place. For those looking to improve their kayak skills or complete BCU training and assessments, we also offer British Canoeing awards.

We're going to run 3 more sea kayak surfing courses in northern Spain next summer - dates will be: 10th - 14th June, 1st - 5th September, and 15th - 19th September. Check out our Events tab for more details - there are 8 spaces available on each week! The June week has 6 spaces left. The first September week has all 8 spaces left. The 15th - 19th September only has 2 spaces left! There are different size waves to choose from, all quite close to each other, so there's no need to go into bigger waves if you're just gaining confidence and learning!

We had a lovely trip to Papagayo yesterday which was nice and varied - sunshine, very light winds, some small waves at the cape, a blowhole, cave, and gorgeous soft sandy beaches. And we had a swim and snorkel at lunchtime! I'd forgotten how soft and silky the sand is at these beaches - it's a bit coarser in Mundaka where we were running the kayak surfing courses! A beautiful day ☺️ And it was our first day getting all 3 of our brand spanking new kayaks out on the water - the Edge Kayak Alnes Ocean, and our 2 Sea Kayaking UK Sportives! I think they're going to enjoy living in the Canaries! 😃

We ran our very first trip of the new season, and this one was to Arrecife! We only had one client, which is actually quite nice at the very start of the season while we get back into the swing of things before November comes, which is always a very busy month!
We had an 18 knot headwind on the way out, which meant a very nice downwind cruise on the way back home! Sunshine, tapas, ice cream and a very high tide were the order of the day 😄 Juan also enjoyed using our new Edge Kayak out on its first ever day trip. It handled so well in the wind, and he got a chance to surf a couple of waves at the reef at the end of the trip 😊It'll be great to see how it handles the much tougher, faster and steeper waves of Lanzarote over the coming season!

The journey back to Lanzarote has begun! And we're really looking forward to getting back to this sort of thing 😀😀😀😀 Want to join us? Get in touch soon, as it's looking quite booked up most of the season already!

A brief snapshot of fun and beautiful moments from the summer, before we return to Lanzarote and start posting photos of our kayak trips and courses again! We had a great time and are already looking forward to next year, with one of the September surf courses half booked up already!

A small selection from the first 2 days of our final sea kayak surfing course this year in Mundaka! The osprey was on the prowl again, we did some safety practice - how to avoid rogue oncoming kayaks, and got some action in the waves! We've set dates already for next year and already have some bookings. See our events tab for the new dates! :)
Our next on-the-water action will be in Lanzarote!

For the wildlife/bird lovers out there, here is a selection of photos (taken in low light so not the best quality I'm afraid) from our birdwatching trip. We heard a lot of Cetti's warblers but failed to see them 😄. Species spotted included purple herons, grey herons, great egrets, little egrets, cattle egrets, booted eagles, marsh harriers, buzzards, kestrels, peregrine falcons (during a stoop!), spoonbills, white storks, black terns, kingfishers, swallows, little grebes, great crested grebes, shoveller ducks, shelducks, gadwalls, pochards, red crested pochards, water rail, black winged stilts, green sandpipers, lapwings, ringed plovers, red billed choughs, griffon vultures, stonechats, black redstarts, spotless starlings, and a late evening bike ride to see glossy ibis and a thrilling close encounter with a nightjar! Phew! I'm tired just writing it all 😄Oh and we saw that other famous bird species, the red deer!

A few more photos from last week's sea kayak surf camp! This was a really fun and enjoyable week, for us as well, with lots of progression, learning safety, capsizing to avoid a collision, how to keep the kayak on top of the wave and the stern out of the water for easy turns (even in a Perception Essence - it's about technique, not about the boat!), bracing, edging and general hilarity! Looking forward to next year already! 😃😃

A quick note that I really need to get off my chest. Since we started Sea Kayaking Lanzarote in 2017, I've always done all the communication. Juan hasn't sent a single email to a client in all that time, or done a single booking. It's always been me. So when I get an enquiry in from people who have been in contact with me before, especially if they have had lots of communication with me, I've helped them with info about the island etc....and they still send new enquiries saying "Hello Juan", these emails go right to the bottom of the pile. If the sender of the email has also paddled with me, plus if I've towed or rescued them, and they still act as though I don't exist, I just don't reply at all. Here endeth the lesson on email hierarchy! Those of you in the know will chuckle at this! "Hello Sarah" or Sarah and Juan or Juan and Sarah... no problem. Just "Hello Juan"... beware!

Here are a few photos of our Edge Kayak being put through its paces by different people this past week! It's a great boat for the surf, it's so manoeuvrable! It looks like it's going to be very popular ☺️

Some photos from the safety day of last week's sea kayak surfing course in Mundaka! This is always a fun day, with lessons in how to avoid rogue kayaks in the surf. Jumping over them in shallow water and diving under them in deeper water, it's so much fun when everyone gets in the spirit! We also practised capsizing while surfing a wave to avoid a collision, which we saw put into practice in a real life situation when one of the group had to deliberately capsize to avoid a surfer. A great day! See the photos below for some hilarity 😃😃

Some photos from one of our ebike trips this summer! This was a trip in the Urkiola Natural Park, taking in some stunning mountain scenery, passing through some lovely small villages and soaking up some sun. We'll be running more of these next summer as they're so much fun and it's so easy to cover a lot of distance. Minimal effort, maximum scenery! Northern Spain is a great place to come for a week of exploring in the spring and summer, either on foot or on wheels.

The stunning coastline of Lanzarote is a fantastic place for warm winter paddling! We'll be back and running trips from the last week of October onwards (a bit later than usual this year due to the sea kayak surf courses). We have huge cliffs, lava arches, powerful blowholes and fine sandy beaches. And warm sunshine, which has been lacking a bit in some places this summer!
We've had a cancellation for November and now have availability from 11th - 15th November. The rest of that month is full, but 9th to 22nd December we have lots of space for trips!
After that, we have a couple of spaces on a sea kayak leadership training course from 7th - 11th January and then lots of availability February through to April. So whether you want trips or training, send us an email or a message to book in or to find out what's available! We're really looking forward to getting back on the water and seeing you all! 😊😊😊

A photo dump from our trip to the Pyrenees last week. While we're now running mainly e-bike tours in the north of Spain due to demand, there are some really special places that you can only get to by walking. So Juan and I took ourselves off for a camping trip and had a splendid 3 days - the first day in the grassier French Pyrenees, just over the border walking around Pic du Midi D'Ossau (check out the cute marmot photos at the end including the 2 youngsters!). The 2nd and 3rd days were in the Spanish side, with gurgling streams, gushing waterfalls and breathtaking views. There were still plenty of patches of snow up there despite the heat, and looking at how deep it is it'll probably still be there another couple of weeks. High points were Col du Peyreget at 2320m and the Refugio de Respumoso at 2220m. What a beautiful area!

Summertime is our off season for kayaking, and we spend our time in northern Spain. Our Basque country based sea kayak surf courses and walking trips mostly take place in June and September, leaving us a couple of months to concentrate on things like kayak accessories. One thing that has proven to be exceptionally popular is the kayak trolley, which you can check out and buy here:

https://www.seaflowdesigns.com/shop?store-page=SEA-KAYAK-TROLLEY-c160289519

The best wheels for a kayak trolley that we've found are the 220mm wheels. They're more versatile, suitable for a variety of terrain including sand, and yet still fit in the round hatches (eg front hatch on P&H kayaks and front and rear hatches on NDK). The smaller wheels fit into the day hatch but we don't recommend those for sand. 220mm is ideal. These lightweight, adaptable trolleys have really taken off and are being bought by paddlers all over the world, as far away as Australia, Canada and the USA as well as our usual client base throughout Europe. Awesome!!!!

We have space on a non-kayaking birdwatching trip in September. 4 nights in our casa rural in Basque country, (nights of 11th -14th September), with 3 days birdwatching (12th -14th) and we'll take you to the best places to spot the most interesting species! Contact us for details ([email protected] or message us). A few photos below taken at the lake near our house. At the moment it's an extravaganza of great crested grebe chicks! Some are already quite big, some are still riding on parent's backs. Also a purple heron standing still in the grass, some white storks and lots of coots and their chicks!

What a dynamic, fun and successful week! We've just finished running our first ever sea kayak surfing course, which takes place in the north of Spain, and we're already looking forward to the next ones in September! This was a really enjoyable week, filled with waves, surfing, capsizes, pintxos, boat rides and a mix of sun and clouds and even a bit of rain! The location is ideal, with bigger waves further out and smaller waves closer to shore, with sand banks separating them. The waves are constant and great for surfing in long sea kayaks, being less steep and powerful than we get in Lanzarote. We worked on safety, communication, timing, catching waves in a relaxed manner (you only need to take a few strokes and start to paddle when the wave is almost on you, there's absolutely no need to paddle like hell for ages 😄😄) staying straight on the wave, and carving, which can be done even in a very long sea kayak as you just need to get your stern out of the wave. Learning and perfecting these skills takes a lot of time, but you can pick up a lot in a week and then go home to practice. We were really impressed with our new Edge Kayak which was so good for coaching as it's really manoeuvrable and easy to get to people, plus it´s fantastic for surfing. We'll probably get one of our new Romany Sportives out in September as well, as we can't wait till we get back to Lanzarote 😄😄 Double the fun!!!
