HIRING! 🥳

We are looking for motivated kitchen assistants to support us with various culinary experiences (cooking classes, supper clubs, birthday parties, tastings etc.) in Zurich. You would help our chefs prepare for the events, assist students/clients, do some dishes, set the table etc. If you know the culinary scene in Zurich very well and love talking about food, we are also regularly looking for guides for our food tours.

No previous experience needed, what is important is that you are willing to learn. We are looking for people who are proactive, efficient, customer-friendly and fast. Ideally, you love being a host and feeding people. Knowledge of German is a benefit but not necessary as our team as well as our clients are very international.

This is a freelance job as it depends on the amount of events that we run. We will reach out to you whenever we have job opportunities, and you can then decide which ones you want to accept.

Are you interested? Pls send an email to [email protected] with a few lines why you would be the perfect addition to our team. We cannot wait to meet you! 🤩

Did you know?

1. 🌟 Sugar doesn’t cause cavities in the way you might think 🌟 .
You already know that sugar and candy aren’t good for your teeth, but sugar on its own doesn’t actually cause cavities. Your mouth always has good and bad bacteria in it. When you eat sugar or foods with sugar (even bread!), certain types of bad bacteria begin to eat it. These bacteria produce acids that are what actually cause cavities to form.

2. 🌟 Bananas are technically berries 🌟 .
Bananas are a great snack, but did you know this fruit is actually a berry... as are grapes, eggplants and oranges? Because of the way bananas grow, they are technically not a fruit, though we do often lump them into the fruit category.

3. 🌟 Strawberries are the only fruit that has seeds on the outside 🌟 .
Strawberries are unique in that they’re the only fruit that wears its seeds outside. Eating strawberries is also a great way to get vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, and vitamin B9. Also, there are over 600 different types of strawberries available today.

4. 🌟 Apples, pears, and peaches are all in the rose family 🌟 .
Munching on a rose flower wouldn’t be very good for you, but there are plenty of tasty fruits in the rose family you already love! Apples, pears, peaches, plums, and even cherries are all in the rose family.

To all foodies out there: Are you confident that you know all of the latest food trends?

If you don’t know about edible wood 🪵 , it’s time to add it to your dictionary.

When you think of food and wood, usually you think about a wood fire pizza, a cedar plank cooked salmon, or even a bamboo cheese board... but now you can eat it too.

For the skeptical, this is not the tree bark or the inner core of a palm tree. This is the actual trunk of a tree that could reach 15 meters high. Edible wood is available in planks, sawdust and small rectangular pieces. It is soaked in syrup or honey and also available in flavored jams with sawdust or chocolate bonbons.

Edible wood has a nice texture and interesting flavors as long as you like sweets. It is very similar to chestnuts in syrup, fig/quince paste, sweet potato or pumpkin in syrup.

Edible wood is also packed with nutrients, and it is a great source of fiber. It contains magnesium, calcium, potassium as well as phosphorus.

No, this is not your regular Asian noodles. This is saimin, one of Hawaii’s 🌺 most traditional local foods.

Saimin is an iteration of a Chinese egg-noodle soup 🍜 that was developed during the Islands’ plantation era. You can taste how the recipe has been touched by Hawaii's immigrant history, primarily the thin Chinese chow mein-inspired noodles wading in a Japanese dashi broth.

As more migrations followed, more ingredients informally entered the mix — green onions, kamaboko, kimchi, Portuguese sausage, spam — to create the recognizable bowls of saimin you see today. It’s become so iconic you can order it at sporting events at Aloha Stadium, you can even find saimin at McDonald’s locations across Hawaii!

Another reason to visit Hawaii? 😉

Even though, it is still a controversial issue across the globe, eating whale 🐳 meat is still a tradition in Greenland 🇬🇱.

However, Greenlanders have been facing harsh climates and rough land that barely grows anything green. The food eaten is almost as iconic as Inuit culture itself and has been influenced by lack of easy access to the things we often take for granted.

From mink and narwhal to beluga and fin whales, whale meat has been historically prepared and eaten in various ways, with the most popular methods being raw, smoked, or cured meat (Arfeq nikkui). Whale meat is dried mostly as a way of preservation and it also makes a rather tasty protein-packed snack, similar to beef jerky as we normally know.

If you have never tried dulce de leche before in your life, you’re missing out big time!

While it’s very popular in Latin countries, it seems that the rest of the world is still neglecting this simple but yummy thick, butterscotch-like sauce.

Dulce de leche is a creamy, sweet sauce often called Mexican 🇲🇽 caramel. But while it looks like caramel, it is, in fact, based on the Maillard browning of dairy rather than the caramelization of sugar. That may sound like a technicality, but it gives dulce de leche a sweet and mellow, toffee or butterscotch-like flavor without the bitterness associated with caramel. It's traditionally made by simmering a pot of milk and sugar, stirring pretty much constantly, for hours.

Once cooked and cooled, dulce de leche is delicious straight out of the can (spoon optional), but you can also serve it over ice cream or use it as a filling for cakes, brownies, or cookies.

You might want to ask your dentist 🦷 before trying this, because you wouldn’t be able to stop eating 😉.

Did you know that there are more than 10 countries in the world that celebrate Lunar New Year and not just China 🇨🇳 ? It is a festival for 1/4 of the world's population. 🍾 🍾 🍾

The two largest non-Chinese countries that celebrate Lunar New Year are Vietnam 🇻🇳 and Korea 🇰🇷 .

Fun fact: Washing hair or clothes is not allowed on the first day of the lunar year, because it is seen as “washing one’s fortune away” at the beginning of the year. Sweeping up and taking out the garbage is not recommended either, as it symbolizes removing the good luck from the house.

During this holiday, fish 🐟 dishes are very welcomed as the pronunciation for 'fish' in Mandarin is 'yú', which is the same pronunciation as 'leftover'. The idea is that every year, you want an abundance of food or wealth, so that you have "leftovers" for the next year 💰 🤑 .

How are you going to celebrate Lunar New Year this year?

Irish 🇮🇪 stew is a lamb or mutton and root vegetable stew 🍲 native to Ireland. Purists maintain that the only acceptable and traditional ingredients are neck mutton chops, potatoes, onions, and water.

Irish stew was recognized as early as 1800. It was originally a common food for the ordinary and poor people of Ireland as it used cheap ingredients and fed in bulk. Cheap cuts of meat were used that needed longer to cook, most commonly beef, mutton or lamb. It has since evolved into a rich flavorful dish.

It is best enjoyed on a rainy day or during the winter months, warming you up on those cold days. ❄️❄️❄️

Katayef (or qatayef) is an iconic Middle Eastern treat, made from fried pancakes stuffed with nuts and then dunked in thick syrup. It is a staple dessert in the Middle East especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

The origin of this popular sweet goes back to the Fatimid Dynasty while some say it started during the Abbasid Caliphate established by Abbas ibn Abdul-Muttalib (566-653). The word qatayef comes from the Arabic word qataf which means “pick up”. Who wouldn’t want to pick up any of these? 😆😆

INDULGE – OUR STORY

INDULGE offers curated food tours and culinary experiences in Switzerland. It is our aim to celebrate the rich culinary history of Switzerland while bringing people together over delicious foods and drinks.

Our exclusive food experiences are for people who travel to eat – because that’s what we do. If we are not eating, we are thinking about what, and where to eat next.

Not only do we love eating, we also love learning about foods and the stories behind them: What distinguishes a good product from an extraordinary product? Who are the people that pour all their love into our country’s most beloved dishes? Who has influenced our culinary heritage, and have we had an impact on them? Which are the hottest food start-ups in Switzerland right now? Why do most travelers – and locals – know so little about Swiss cuisine, even though we have the highest density of Michelin-starred restaurants in the world?

Thanks to our relationships built over the years with Switzerland’s best chefs, restaurateurs, hoteliers, artisan producers, vintners and brewers, INDULGE offers culinary experiences that are one-of-a-kind. Our team consists of local chefs, sommeliers, restaurant managers, hospitality experts as well as food entrepreneurs that do their best every day to uncover Switzerland’s culinary history and showcase everything the amazing Swiss food scene has to offer.
