They say it’s Good Neighbor Day, and that reminded me of my visit to Good Neighbor Hotels at Disneyland Resort. These hotels are an important part of the options available to you when visiting Disneyland.
My favorite was J.W. Marriott for its option to guarantee connecting rooms (subject to availability) and it’s proximity to enjoyable restaurants. I’ve determined if I need to stay in a Good Neighbor on our next visit to California, this will likely be it for my family.

It’s Comic Book Day! The great news is, fans of Comic Book Heroes can find plenty of fun at Universal Orlando Resort. We love The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, and I bet you would, too,

It’s Miniature Golf Day! Did you know Walt Disney World has two mini golf facilities on property? Winter Summerland is our favorite.
Even better? When you book a package, you can receive up to four vouchers for a free round. Is one of those Magical Extras that make a Disney World vacation so fun.

I’m often asked why we go to Walt Disney World so much. There are many reasons, but one of the main ones is: It’s truly a different trip each time we go! One visit, we may be immersed in the Island feeling of the Polynesian, and the next, we wake up on a Savanna with giraffes outside our window. One trip may be full of Christmas cheer, and the next is loaded with special food options at the Food & Wine Festival.
The bottom line is, we can go so many times and not do everything. So we will keep going back. 😉

Quote of the trip:
At a tea shop in Weymouth-
“Do you think they have English Breakfast tea, I don’t see it?”
“Yeah, but I think it might just be called breakfast tea here 😉”
I’ll take your guesses on who said what. And who was correct, in this instance. 😂

Well, it had to be goodbye at some point. We disembarked the Disney Dream today and headed back to London. We have the afternoon to enjoy before we fly home early in the morning. There were many things we could have chosen to do, but we decided to keep it simple and enjoy a traditional Sunday Roast in Cranford prior to today’s football match (Tottenham vs. Arsenal). This location is another media touchpoint for me, as I’ve been enjoying the BBC’s miniseries “Cranford” recently. The ladies of that series would truly be flabbergasted at how populated this area is, now!
I know the joke is that British food has no flavor, and in some instances, it’s true. BUT! What food they claim as traditionally theirs’ tends to be very yummy, as is the case with this delectable meal!

If you want to start a stampede on a Disney Cruise, just shout “Churro Waffles in Cabanas” and watch us all run. 😂

What a send off by the people of Portland/Weymouth! A local choir serenaded us just prior to departure, and we received a cannonball salute. Disney is so good at creating magical moments for us, but these folks took it upon themselves to do so, too. I’m not gonna lie. I cried. Multiple times. I love it when humans show us their great side!

As a lifelong Jane Austen fan, today was a treat for me, as I got to visit a location included in her book “Emma.” Weymouth is where Jane Fairfax and Frank Churchill formed a secret attachment (spoilers for a 200 year old book, sorry!) Thankfully, I didn’t almost fall into the sea as poor Jane did. 💜
This is the CUTEST seaside town with bountiful shopping and food options. The locals that greeted us thanked us for bringing the sunshine, and it definitely made us smile. We finally found amazing fish and chips (you know it’s good when the line is out the door), and we got to experience a cream tea in the cutest little tea room with a view of the harbor.

Oh, Cobh, you are just lovely! Formerly known as Queenstown, this was the last stop for the Titanic before her fatal end. The real story, though, is the tale of thousands of immigrants that left for America from the very pier (Heartbreak Pier) pictured below. We walked to St. Colman’s Cathedral to see the view friends and family had of the departing ships that carried their loved ones to a new life. The connection many Americans have to this place is not obvious to many of us, but if you are of Irish descent, you likely had ancestors pass through this town. It is simply beautiful and so moving to think of the stories that began here! ☘️

We almost couldn’t dock in Liverpool due to wind conditions, but our captain kept trying until we made it! (By the way, I know I look crazy, but that’s wind burn, not sunburn, and I’ve given up on any semblance of nice hair with the crazy winds!)
We spent some time in the British Music Experience, said “hi!” to Paul, George, Ringo, and John, and loaded up on British snacks at Tesco.
Speaking of snacks, experienced cruisers may notice a difference in onboard offerings when sailing from a foreign port. Remember that suppliers will be different when sailing from somewhere new, so it’s important to keep an open mind if you have a favorite food and are sailing from somewhere “exotic.” We’ve noticed it with a few items onboard, and thought my cruising clients might want to keep that in mind! 💜

Ok, Scotland. Don’t be showing out too much with your sunshine and 50 degree weather for us…you make it too tempting to return!
We were greeted with bagpipes this morning and are enjoying a gorgeous Loch tour. First stop was the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, and wow, is it a stunner!

We’ve boarded and Jake has eaten his ceremonial first meal of shrimp and crab legs at Cabanas. 😂 We’ve got all our “errands” done and are enjoying watching the families roll in on the deck below.
What sort of errands do I run on the first day of the cruise? First, I check to make sure our dining requests have been met. For this trip, we preferred a private table, and I wanted to confirm our request had been accommodated. If it hadn’t been, we likely would have shifted to whatever time/rotation was available for a private table. Then, I checked in with specialty dining to be sure our reservation was correct, and to join the waitlist for Palo brunch. We filled our large cups up to minimize trips upstairs, and now we can enjoy our afternoon!

We conquered public transportation, saw the Crown Jewels, the Tower Bridge, met some nice Yeoman Warders (I felt like we were asking a character for a photo and felt so weird, but it looks to be a pretty normal thing!), and ate some not great Fish and Chips (Epcot does it better, but I’m sure there are better authentic options we will find later). It’s been a great day, and tomorrow will be even better, because we’re boarding the Disney Dream!

We’re exploring a different type of castle in an effort to beat jet lag. 🏰 Windsor Castle is beautiful!

Thinking of the happiest things (like cruising), because it’s the same as having wings…
We’re getting ready for our next BIG adventure-We’re on our way to the United Kingdom! We’ll start our visit with some stops in London, then board the beautiful Disney Dream for 7 nights of cruising to Scotland, Ireland, Liverpool, and Portland, England.
This is truly a celebration of life and love. This is my official return to cruising and our 15th anniversary celebration.
Now, I have to get through the longest flight I’ve ever taken. If you know me, you know I’m nervous, but the reward waiting for me at the end is keeping me going. 💜

Our precious girls have grown up in theme parks and on cruise ships. I’m so glad we started when they were young, because now they are seasoned pros and we get through most theme park days with few complaints. If I could go back and do it again, I’d do it the exact same way.
Take the trip with little ones. And then young ones. And preteens. And teens. And adults. And grandkids. Just take the trip and make the memories!
