If it's christmas and you're in Copenhagen, then you really shouldn't miss out on a visit to the Tivoli Gardens.

It's great for fairground rides at any time of day but a festive season visit is extra special after dark.

A day ticket allows you to come and go as you please. Just make sure you get a hand stamp the first time you exit to allow you back in later.

The bronze sculpture represents the mythical creation of the island of Zealand by the Norse goddess Gefjun. The Swedish king promised Gefjun all the territory she could plough in a single night. The ploughed land was then cast into the sea to create the island of Zealand.

The sculpture looks just as powerful from the side, so there may be another picture coming later...

Every year, the Battle of the Flowers takes place on the Channel Island of Jersey.

Inaugurated in 1902 for the coronation of Edward VII, the 'battle' is a carnival and parade of flower floats and takes place on the second Thursday in August.
..and, probably because of the warmer climate, you can see spectacular flowers even in late Autumn...

La Corbière is the extreme south-western point on the island of Jersey. The Corbière lighthouse, standing atop an offshore islet which can be reached at low tide using a concrete causeway, was built to protect shipping from the hidden rocks off the headland.

Despite the lighthouse many shipwrecks have occurred in these treacherous waters. In 1995, 307 passengers were saved from a sinking ferry en route to Sark. The sculpture of linked hands sits on the headland to commemorate all those who assisted in the successful rescue.

St Matthews Church in the village of Millbrook is colloquially known as the Glass Church.

In 1934, Florence Boot, widow of Jesse Boot, the owner of Boots the Chemist, commissioned the famous glassmaker René Lalique to decorate the entire church.

The church is still a place of worship but visitors are welcome. Parking is excellent and free.

A sign of stormy weather to come...

La Corbière is a lighthouse on the south west corner of the island of Jersey. It is situated at the end of a tidal causeway which gives access to the lighthouse rock at low tide. There is no public access to the lighthouse itself.

La Corbière, completed in 1874, was the first lighthouse in the British Isles to be built of concrete.

Take care on the causeway. In 1946, assistant lighthouse keeper Peter Edwin Larbalestier lost his life in a selfless act of courage going to the assistance of a member of the public cut off by the rising tide.

During World War II, the Channel Islands were occupied by German forces. The coastline was one of the most heavily fortified parts of the Atlantic Wall. Many of the bunkers and observation posts still exist.

This image shows a naval observation post looking out towards Sark and Guernsey.

CIOS - The Channel Islands Occupation Society manage a number of bunkers, which are open for public tours. You can find them at www.cios.org.je.

A weather beaten Eddie enjoying a bit of a dull day by the beach at St Brelades Bay.

The statue by sculptor Raewyn Riva, is made from old copies of the Jersey Evening Post and Gallery magazine. 18 coats of lacquer were added to the papier-mâché base to protect the statue from the elements.

Titled 'Everyday Contentment', Ms Riva has nicknamed him Eddie.

There are always swans on the river at Windsor. I guess it has something to do with the people who feed them!

With Windsor on one side of the bridge and Eton on the other, it's a great place to chill on a sunny day.

And for a picnic and great views of the castle, head over to the Brocas open space / park on the Eton side of the river.
