Our original plan was to sail back to Finland this summer but as old saying goes, sailor's plans are written in the sand... Thus we truly enjoyed Swedish west coast and there are so much still to explore, we decided to leave the boat to Sweden. Thus we have to leave all infrastructure to the boat, we wanted to have her in the warm hall over the winter. We sent inquieries to four different boat yards of which two replied; one was far too expensive and the second almost half price compared to first offer, so decision was easy. We had to only clean the boat and take off the sails and boat yard took the mast down, washed the bottom and lifted her to the warm hall. Only downside is that our season ended early this year 😦 Now we just have to dream about next season!

Gothenburg's guest harbour is located by the city center, by the opera and Nordstan shopping center - and by the barque Viking! She was launched 1906 and she is the biggest sailing vessel built in Scandnavia, 354 ft with bowsprit. Today she serves as a hotel - and bar - and at least on Friday night whole marina "enjoys" the beat 😅
Harbour is surprinsingly small so advance reservation via Dockspot is recommended!

Lilla Kornö was one our favourite places to visit. When we left from Smögen our plan was to head to some natural harbour. We sailed by Lilla Kornö an it looked so charming that we changed our plan and stopped there - and I'm glad we did! Such a charming little village without services but views were stunning! This is where we did our morning walk which turned to be a bouldering experience 😅

There is always something to see by the fairways; either beautiful nature or small, charming islands with white houses and small "boathouses" by the water. People spend lazy summer days on the terraces and watch boats passing by.
On the other day when we left our liferaft to be serviced, we visited also Smögen, the famous "holiday island", which was fun to see, but we preferred to move on to smaller place for the night.

Yesterday we motored through Sote channel, which is around 5 km long and 4,5 m deep, narrow channel from Hunnebostrand close to Smögen. There is only one bridge and it is opened without any request thus traffic is heavy during summertime. Once in a while it reminded me Kiel channel with countryside views! #

Lilla Kornö offered amazing views but it required some bouldering 😅 (see video in story)!

What a learning experience we had today! Our Viking liferaft certificate was expired and the raft needed to be serviced. We noticed that here is a service facility close by in Smögen so we decided to drop by and leave the raft there for service. And what an amazing service we got! Marcus from Västkustens Flotteservice provided us a dock and came to pick up the raft from our boat. He asked if we would like to see our raft opened and inflated and of course we did, so we rode with him to his facilities. Marcus unpacked the raft, filled it (it fills faster when launched!) and we reviewed actually for the first time all items packed to the raft and how to use them. It was good to see that knife was easily available to cut the painter. Water is packed to small portion bags and there is even a system to collect rain water from the roof! There is also flashlight, messaging mirror, flares, pump, repair kit, vomiting bags, sea anchor and llife line. There is no food so all food needs to be in a seperate grab bag.
Marcus gave us also really good tips for the use of the raft:
1) Rafts painter line (tied to the boat) needs to have "weakest link" (see last pic). "Weakest link" is strong enough to be used when raft is launched out of the boat but in a case the boat sinks and you would accidentally loose your knife, weakest link would break without cutting it by knife and thus not sunk the raft!
2) When you launch the raft, try to launch it on lee side of the boat. When launch it, keep it first close to boat ( 1m distance) by holding the painter line. It is then easiest to be turned to correct position if it is inverted.
3) Self rightening rafts were not recommended by him (like ours is) thus they are really high and have massive wind surface so they "sail like with spinnaker".

We were so happy to have this super knowledgeable and friendly service so 10 points for Västkustens Flotteservice and high recommedations if you need to serve your liferaft in the area! west coast

One of the best thing in participating ARC was all the amazing people we got to learn during the trip. This weekend we had a Finnish- Norwegian ARC'21 reunion in Hvaler, Norway 🇧🇻 ! It was so so great to see our ARC friends and spend the weekend together with and after so many years! Kids have grown since seeing last time but friendship has lasted and teens had fun hanging out together and we had fun by cherishing memories of the trip - and dreaming about the next one 😉. Scenary in Hvaler is beautiful and see food here is exellent 🦐🦞🐟!! Special thanks to Therese and Tor-Anders for taking such good care of us 😘 Next reunion in Finland 🇫🇮

What a day! We left early to make a pit stop in famous Marstrand. We had no wind, so we decided to take the extremely narrow fairway to Marstrand, which was cool to see. After that we continued driving narrow (and shallow, lowest point 2,4 m!) inner fairways with the most stunning scenary with rocks and small villages with white houses. You can't even capture the scenary by phone! We anchored in a natural harbour close to Lysekil. Kids enjoyed jumping & swimming, driving the dinghy and fishing - Henrik caught some nice makrils for tomorrow 🐟! Not a bad day at all 😍!

It feels there is no "lagom väder" this summer; either heavy wind or no wind at all.... Today we motored 36 nm to Dönsö, close to Gothenburg, with no wind at all.
There is rain, thunder and heavier wind forecasted for tomorrow so we wanted a protected harbour for the night. Unfortunately fish butiken was closed by the time we got there but luckily we managed to get 2 kg of shrimps from local ICA to celebrate Fanny's birthday 🦐🎉 Local sailors shared their favourite places and the most beautiful routes to sail in the area. There are so many places we want to visit and so little time! Idea of leaving the boat here starts to be really appealing.....Henkka wanted to test his new rod in the evening and he got two trouts - he surely was a happy fisherman 🤩!

We had a fantastic 66 nm nightsail to Varberg where we arrived 5 am this morning. Sea was still a bit bumpy after heavy winds, but finally we had 7-8 m/s downwind - pure pleasure! Only headache was caused by the fishing vessels as traffic required quite a bit of attention.
After a few hours of sleep, we rented a car and drove one hour to Göteborg to pick up Saimi's friend from the airport - and girls enjoyed shopping day in the city.
Varberg itself was a nice surprise with beautiful houses, stunning "Kallbadshus" and a big fortress that reminded of Suomenlinna. Henrik found an exellent fishing store and he is all geared up to do some fishing again! Keep thumbs up for him - fresh makrill would be moe than welcome 🤩🐟

Huh huh - what a leg 😯! Winds hasn' been that favourable for us lately so again we had a longer nighttime leg, 125 nm in headwind from Svaneke to Skanör, southern Sweden. Wind was W/SW 16-20 kts, 25 kts in gusts and wave height around 1m so weather was exactly according to forecast. This time we were wise and changed genua 4 in advance instead of our 140% genua that we mainly use, so we got better angle in headwind and boat was in exellent balance even on stronger gusts.
First three hours were fine, and boat was going nicely 7- 8 knots with second reef in main. Then I went down, and noticed there was some water coming under floor panels 😱. Checked bilge, and it was full. Bilge alarm didn't work thus we were healing quite a bit. Hannu came down and we opened floor panels one by one and then identified fast that water was coming from a log / speed sensor in the bow! Hannu got it tighter, so no more water coming, but by then there were already around 150 l of water. Got it all away by pumping. We left the floor open to monitor the situation and after an hour it started to leak again! Hannu was able to tighten it again no more water coming. We were still rather close to Ronne (Bornholm) and plan B was to sail there if problem would occur again. Monitored the situation but luckily problem was solved and we were able to continue as planned.
Have to say this wasn't really the most relaxing holiday sailing with strong winds, big waves, rain showers, heavy ship traffic and constant worry about the potentially leaking sensor. Our buddy boat s/y Magellano lost their autopilot, so they had to steer manually all night. I can tell, we were all happy when we reached Skanör this morning after 10 am. Now wind is in gusts around 35 kts so it is good to be in a safe harbour for a few days!

After keeping the weather one day in Kalmer, we left towards Bornholm yesterday at noon. Weather was as predicted; first 14-16 knots, and then increasing to 17-20 - and of course from head combined with a bit nasty waves. Luckily direction shifted later from SW to W so after making a nice banana we were able to reach Svaneke with only 2 tacks. We arrived to Svaneke around 7 am this morning after 123 nm. A bit exhausting leg but good to be here 🇩🇰
One of the best part of sailing is the sailing community and great people you meet on a way. In Kalmar we started to talk with one Finnish couple in the supermarket, invited them over for late sundowners and had a great evening together discussing about blue water sailing. They were also heading to Bornholm, so we sailed together all the way to Svaneke. Thank you S/Y Magellano for the great companion!
And enjoy these beautiful shots

Huh - what a day ! We woke up this morning shrouds whining; forecasted wind of 12 knots was actually 20-24 knots - and of course head wind when we headed towards Kalmar so heavy tacking day ahead 🌬💪. Wind calmed down a bit after a few hours but nasty waves stayed slowing our speed. We had been healing quite a bit so I was welcomed by sh #@%%&tty surprise when going down: black water tank had partly leaked to our toilet sink and floor due to jammed ventile - what a mess 🤬💩 ( I save you from the picture, that wasn't exactly a nice sight 🙈) Nice cleaning operation while sailing! Late afternoon wind suddenly calmed to 6-7 knots so we had to motor for a while until it picked up again and finally reached 20-24 knots again just before Kalmar . That point we gave up and motored last hour but that didn't save us from splashes 🌊 55 nm and quite a few swear words later we are happily in Kalmar! Heavy rain and some thunder forecasted for tomorrow so harbour day tomorrow.

169 nm and 27h leg from Hanko to Gotland, Fårö! Yesterday we enjoyed perfect conditions of 12-13 knots of wind which gave us steady 7-8 knots speed. Pure pleasure - untill wind died during the night.
The best part on these longer legs is the feeling of living in the own bubble: sailing, sleeping, reading and just laying and listening the sound of water... And finally getting into holiday feeling!

Uuh - finally back on the boat! We have had hectic weeks but we managed to get the boat pretty much ready for sailing this week; only main sail+ all the kitchen stuff, blankets etc were missing. Today we rushed from the work directly to the boat and emptied two carloads of stuff - and caused massive chaos 🙈. Despite huge amount of stuff, we noticed were missing all our plates & mugs , a bag on spring lines, one blanket, so this tells, we have been packing a bit in a hurry.....After few hours of fixing & organizing everything, we decided just to head to Suomenlinna- and just to take it easy and enjoy! A what a beautiful evening we had with stunning sunset and calm sea. Thanks to , we got plates and we enjoyed new potatoes with various fish and with some white wine that I managed to smuggled from the restaurant. The best part was when teens crawled their bunks and said, how they have missed this boat life - like we all ❤️⛵️
