You know that feeling when you find the perfect place to stay? Thats exactly what we got when we checked in to near Bordeaux. It’s the ideal combination of style and comfort with a gorgeous restaurant, beautiful rooms, fabulous spa and even a cinema. You must check it out the next time you’re in France. Read the review linked in my bio for more on why we loved it so much.

Chateau hopping in the Dordogne has to be one of my favourite things to do in France. I love the architecture, the grounds and of course the blissfully cool interiors. Many of them are privately owned and homeowners will show you around for a small fee. Opening their home on certain days of the week. Of course there are plenty you can prebook online, taking an organised tour but my top tip is to drive around from town to town, pulling in when you see a sign. You’re bound to find a hidden gem!

Whenever the weather gets really hot we always hunt out water. Be that the sea, a pool, lake or river. The dordogne river is a great place for a cooling paddle and we found this charming spot in the charming village of Lalinde. It’s one of those picture perfect French villages where slow travel is the only way possible.
I’ll pop some more pics in my stories or you can click the link in my bio to discover more.

Chantilly, France, famous for sweet whipped cream, lace and horse racing but well worth a visit for the delightful Main Street, gorgeous Chateau, museums and laid back way of French life. Probably my favourite of the 17,684,824 shots I took of the tower during our trip to Paris, not because it’s the clearest, or best angle or even the composition but I just love that heart shaped cloud poking round the side. A pure accident that I didn’t even realise until I was reviewing the photos which perfectly captures how I feel about the city of love ❤️
Have you ever taken a perfectly timed shot by accident? .

Trick shot most definitely not nailed 😂😂🤦‍♀️ but at least we tried! And I don’t think there’s a prettier place to fail! Piper was obsessed with getting the perfect shot at the stunning Louvre museum in Paris but I prefer the near misses. Scroll for more shots of this stunning art gallery. 💙🤍❤️

The Easter holidays are right around the corner and for us it doesn’t feel like they can come soon enough! We’ll be hopping on a plane for the first time since October and hopefully seeing some lovely sunny days.
If you’re headed to the dordogne region of france then I highly recommend visiting the delightful town of Bergerac. Read more about why I love this riverside town so much by clicking the link in my bio! 🇫🇷

Empty beaches are my favourite kind of beaches. It helps when we can let the dog run free without the fear she’ll steal someone’s sandwiches and Piper can have plenty of space to play in the waves. I spend a crazy amount of time researching secret beaches and only visit the popular places out of season or just before sunset.
Soar Mill Cove on the south west coast path was deserted when we were there a couple of weeks ago and I think it’s my new favourite spot in Devon.

What’s the most unique transportation you’ve tried? This is the sea tractor at Burgh Island in south Devon. When the tide is high it takes visitors across the shallow stretch of water to reach the island. It’s only £2 each way and a super quirky activity to add to your Devon bucket list.

Crantock beach on the North Cornish coast really is a stunner! It’s backed by gorgeous sand dunes and the Gannel river which leads out to sea is the perfect place for a paddle if the waves are a bit cold. When the tide is out you can walk all the way across to Vugga cove just over this little river. It’s our favourite sheltered spot on the beach. Plus there’s the fabulous a short walk up the coastpath which has amazing views across the waves. It’s the ideal spot for a drink with a view 😍
There’s a national trust car park just behind the crantock dunes, so free for members to visit.

When we visited Padstow in the summer we could hardly move for the crowds, let alone get a table at one of the many gorgeous restaurants.
Once the Christmas craziness has died down, Padstow empties out and resembles a fishing village of old. You are once again free to explore at your leisure. I think it’s absolutely stunning 🤩 Do you try to visit popular places out of season?

What starts the festive season for you? For me it's a trip to the panto and on Friday night I officially started to feel christmassy. We were invited to opening night at the Regent Theatre & Victoria Hall for to watch the wonderful Cinderella. Obviously we didn't make it last year and I don't think I realised just how much I had missed it until the curtain came up and I shed a little tear of joy. The whole performance was fast paced, hilarious and utterly magical from start to finish.

Read more in my latest review post and make sure you book a ticket quick. You will not be disappointed!

A night out at the Regent Theatre Panto is precisely what we need right now. This year it's Cinderella and it's as joyous as ever!

Autumn feels like it’s well and truly arrived over the last week. The weather has turned a lot cooler and trees are vibrant with rusts, oranges and browns. It’s my favourite time of year for hiking in the woods but that does mean we need some super sturdy footwear to cope with the mud, puddles and cold toes.
This weekend we tested out our new Bellows Ridge Flex hiking boots from our favourite outdoorsy brand, They’re super comfortable, stylish and the dry membrane kept our toes cosy even when jumping in muddy puddles. Plus the All Terrain outsole gave us plenty of grip hiking up slippy trails. They’re even great for tree swinging (swipe to see more!).

The innovative accordion style Bellows Flex technology requires less energy for hikers to bend and walk meaning a more comfortable hike and longer lasting footwear. It’s amazing the difference a good boot can make, we had no grumbles from Piper despite the 5 miles. She was practically prancing along. The lace lock bungee style laces on the kids boots also made it easy for her to pull on her own boots even with slightly numb glove free fingers!

Aside from making super high quality footwear, Keen is the type of company I’m always happy to support. They genuinely believe in sustainability and giving back. Eyelets are made from recycled aluminium, webbing is from recycled plastic bottles and they’re always looking for new ways to support the planet and communities making a difference.

Head over to to order your own Ridge Flex boots, I promise your feet will thank you for it!

A massive thank you to Keen for gifting us these fab boots.

This weekend I had a couple of days away with my best friend of 30 years. We stayed in her camper, had bbqs, put the world to rights and walked 15 miles of the Cleveland Way.
It felt absolutely amazing after the last 18 months to feel so free again. No kids, dogs or husbands to look after, just us as we were in our school and uni days. I returned feeling fully restored, with a full heart and ready for anything. Old friendships just have a way of doing that.❤️
Do you make time to get away with friends? Tag your bestie in the comments and let them know how important they are 😍😍

What are your summer plans? We’ve two weeks left before the holidays and although some travel restrictions are easing I still don’t feel quite ready to book a flight. We’ve just had too many cancellations and I can’t take the rollercoaster of emotions watching the updated lists every few weeks.
Instead we’ll be exploring more of the U.K. and hunting down more great beaches like this one at Seaham on the Durham Heritage coastline. It’s one of the best places in the U.K. for finding sea glass!
You can read more about these beaches in my latest blog (link in the bio)

Beaches are definitely what we’ve missed the most this year. Being based in the Midlands it hasn’t been possible to get to the coast very often. So when we headed to Northumberland I knew we would spend plenty of time in the sand. Despite it being the U.K. school holidays we found them virtually empty with plenty of space for everyone.
Where do you head to when you’re looking for space at the beach?

Do you struggle to find kids footwear that will take you from challenging hikes to rook pooling at the beach that don’t fall apart after a couple of wears? I think I’ve found the perfect solution with . We’ve been putting their kids Verano sandals to the test and they’ve stood up to every challenge we’ve thrown at them! They have plenty of grip which means no sliding off rocks, are quick drying so we can go from river to trail without any moaning and are lightweight and fully adjustable so Piper doesn’t have to worry about sore feet after a day adventuring.
My hard to please tween thinks they’re super stylish and has loved throwing off her usual hot and heavy walking boots now the weather’s picking up for summer.

This half term break has felt much needed and we’ve been taking it slow with day trips and long family hikes.

One of the many things we’ve missed this year has been catching a wave. 🌊 So I was super excited to discover an inland surfing lake near Bristol which offers surfing lessons for all ages and abilities. Needless to say we had an absolute ball at The Wave and it totally satisfied Pipers seaside cravings..... for now!

“The day it all began”
What do you give the man who has everything?! This week we celebrated my husbands birthday so it’s a question I’ve asked a lot over the last month! I was over the moon when I discovered The Day That... and just knew I’d found the perfect gift! This wonderful Cornish company have been photographing the sunrise around Carbis Bay everyday since 2005. All you do is pick a date close to your heart and they’ll deliver a personalised stunning shot straight to your door.
I went for our wedding day and was blown away by the quality of what we received. It really is lovely to see the sunrise in one of the most beautiful places on earth on one of the happiest days of our lives. And I know it’s a gift we’ll treasure forever.
And the husbands opinion? Yes, there were a few happy tears 😂🥰

Have you booked a staycation yet? There’s a lot of rumours going around about which countries are going to be on the green, amber and red list 😬 and I would like nothing more than to book a flight somewhere far away.... But..... If I’m honest, I’m a bit nervous about it all. So fingers crossed we’ll be down in beautiful Cornwall for the summer and I’m still planning somewhere for the end of May. Any recommendations gratefully received!

Piper has always said she wishes she was at her wedding 🤣 yep, we can never have anything just for us 😂🤦‍♀️So when we were in Vegas last year I knew we couldn’t miss the chance to renew our vows and have a little mini wedding.
It was a totally magical experience, far more emotional than I thought it would be. We were married by a brilliant Elvis, wrote some very personal vows, there were tears and giggles all round. Being just the three of us made it even more special and now Pipers ticked something else off her bucket list! 🤣
You can read about how we involved Piper in the day and see some more pics in my blog post. Just click the link in my bio ⬆️ 👰 🕺

We have big plans to cover the globe as quickly as possible, and we need your help to do it!

Are We There Yet Kids was born after days trawling the internet whilst planning a trip to Thailand with my daughter, and trying to find a great country pub in the UK (with a playground) to meet a long distance friend in an area neither of us knew. Both took many sites, many hours, and I was left unsure about what I would find when we got there!

Wouldn’t it be great to know how to spend a rainy day in a foreign city or get the whole family to agree on holiday adventures before you leave the house? Or even decide which restaurant to take your 6 year old daughter to based on the opinions of another 6 year-old? On Are We There Yet Kids you can do all that and more. We have a real passion for travel and adventure and know how hard it is to get the whole family to agree on their version of fun. So kids, feel free to leave reviews and set up your own profiles if you can, and grown-ups, encourage your kids to get involved - tell us what you really think!

We have big plans to cover the globe as quickly as possible, and we need your help to do it. So if you’ve stayed somewhere, eaten something or just love where you live, don’t forget to tell us about it and help other families plan their perfect adventure!
