The biggest thank you to .mcfarland and for dedicating so much time and talent to help Ensemble come to life. My first job after grad school was at fifty, and ever since, Rick has cheered us on in some way or another. We admire him like crazy--he's one of the best. See the :90 video he did for Ensemble on our site and vimeo (link in bio) or check out for more of their work.

One of our favorite experiences from the last trip was on our way to Wadi Rum during Ramadan. The sun was setting and our Jordanian friends were tired and hungry. Up ahead, we saw a traffic stop and slightly panicked, "where are the passports?" As we approached, two guards tossed in waters and hand-wrapped plastic baggies of dates. An entire blockade just to ensure everyone had food and water to break their fast. Acts of devotion and kindness happen in all cultures around the globe. They’re universal--no matter the shape or size. It's a lanugage we all understand and something to be admired.

Ensemble is a retreat. Well, kind of. It's not a typical tourist vacation.
You’ll see the important sites, of course. But this is about people. You'll learn about a different way of life, engage with Jordanians and be confronted with viewpoints that can shake (and shape) your own.
This isn't for everyone. But we're here for anyone willing to travel to make the world a smaller place.

We're heading to Jordan for this first retreat. This place has so much to offer: the people, the food, the sites, and the historical depth. My first time there was in 2012 as an evaluator for the Jordanian Ministry of Social Development, and it changed my life. I love this country and its culture, and I want to share it with people. -

Petra lives up to the hype. And being one of the 7 wonders of the world, it comes with a lot of expectations. You'll understand as you wind your way through the canyon and suddenly look upon the Treasury facade. And that's only the beginning.

The dead sea is absolutely breathtaking and it's memory tangible. The salt in the air is palpable, the water is oily and warm, and the landscape is hazy through the sun's thick glow. At the lowest place on earth, you'll feel like somehow you took off and left it far behind. It's hard to describe--just come see it for yourself.

There's something special about this place--and history would agree. But the current juxtoposition is the most captivating. Near the baptism site, both Israel and Jordan have built entrances into the river for worshippers. The distance between the two shores is about 5 feet, but they are worlds apart. The shiny marble on one side pierces the eye. The wood and straw on the other is a respite from the heat. One side is pristine. The other wild. There are armed guards on both sides, but I could sit on the bench under the shade forever and feel at peace. Take a seat next to me, and rest a while. @ Baptism Site of Jesus Christ
