Albeit in a different way... but we are back! How did it all happen? well, get comfy, here is a snapshot of the last 13 years....I bought the Holy Ghost Church in 2007. With my brother living in Fernie, I often drove past the building and wondered what was happening with her, one time I stopped, and upon entering found an old friend, Witold Twardowski, up in the rafters, giddy with having just unc
overed a long lost painted ceiling. Those that know, or know of Witold, know he is a master of finding new concepts for old buildings, and his design and decor can be seen all over Alberta. Witold had purchased the church, and the Church Hall, now Rumrunner, and was busy working his magic. Years passed, and driving back down to Fernie, I noticed a FOR SALE sign in the front window..... too rushed to stop, the image remained in my mind. Months later it was still there, now this HAD to be a sign, and so it began. I had wanted to get my three kids out of the city and back to a bit of a more ... grounded life... you know.... "the mountains are calling..." Boom, a year later we had built a little house in the church and were ready to open up a coffee house.. and then someone asked if they could bring a band in to play. And just like that, the Blackbird coffee house was born. SO many great nights spent listening to music, in my LIVING room, great friends, long winters, glorious summers. When my little kids became big kids, the city lights beckoned and we were back in the hustle and bustle of the city groove. 8 years have flown by, and suddenly, we had a lot of time on our hands. 2020, am I right? while other people were learning the intricacies of sour dough, or how to tap dance in Italian.... I suddenly had an opportunity to revisit the Blackbird. We "camped" out a few nights, and I fell in love all over again. So our pandemic project has been fixing her up, and figuring out her, and our... well... mostly MY, next chapter. Welcome, The Blackbird. Our mountain getaway, the escape form the city. this is my place to unwind, take a hike and reconnect. I would love it to be yours as well. We are happy to offer up The Blackbird as a holiday rental, from a weekend or a week, I hope you will find it as restorative as I do. Please follow long here and on instagram , to see the progress. We hope to welcome guests sometime in June this year. Like the song says, ..."pack up all your cares and woes"... and we will see you at the Blackbird.

Little vignettes of beauty at the blackbird this week. How lovely are the flowers on the fern! Such a little surprise and delight! Blackbird is full of them. The bright yellow of the kitchen floor always lifts my heart! Ahhhh blackbird says… nothing better . Xox blackbird

I love holidays at the blackbird so very much, normally I’m spending all my time getting ready for guests and making sure all the magic touches and special sparkles are there… this year I’m so very lucky to have been able to take a few days to fully relax and restore. Sleeping in, staying in pyjamas all day… sinking into the couch in front of the fire… sinking into a gorgeous tub.. there is nothing more rejuvenating than a clawfoot tub and candles… if you are trying to find the perfect gift? Tournament ready! We finally received our new ping pong table, all 200 pounds of her! I spent 3 hours putting it together last night and my neighbours provided the muscle@to flip it over. She’s a beauty! We hope our guests have good times, and remember it’s just a game… hehhe! 🏆🏆

4am finished the first ever 200m race in Canada. Held in our OWNNN backyard, the Divide 200. 92 hours of straight up running through the woods…. Little tree nap here and there… well done ladies, well done , well done to all the runners, pacers, crew, volunteers who kept it all going. Such an incredible event to see unfolding throughout the week. Now time for beers, baths, and sleeeeeep! Congratulations!and cheers! 🍻 🥂 !

Look at these gorgeous smiles! These amazing women are running in the Divide 200, Canada’s first 200 mile race, going on right now! We are stoked to have them and their fabulous group of supporters staying at the Blackbird this week. As night falls on the first day of this crazzzzzy race, we are following and cheers alllll the racers on! What an incredible experience. Well done .gallant and all the crew and volunteers keeping the show going! Sooo impressive! Yahoooo! Nothing like a little run in the woods!

Blackbird rainy day starter kit, available now at blackbird! Rainy day got you down? Not here! We switched gears, lit a gorgeous cozy fire, brewed up some of our westy coffee, and made the famous waffles! Looking forward to hanging out by the fire playing games and doing some puzzles all afternoon… and tomorrow the sun shines again! Pro tip: when you stay at blackbird there is always wood in the wallet, coffee at the coffee station, waffle mix in the cupboard, and a plethora of games to get you through a day inside. The weather is always fine at the blackbird. Xox see you soon !

Posted on here about our 10 month old buckskin pony gone missing from the pasture in Coleman ( Willow drive )…
Two days ago, we heard that two teenage boys were bragging about going into the pasture and taking our pony out. Sounds like our c**t pulled away and the boys chased it for a bit.
I knew that there was no way that he could have gotten out of that pasture and would left his pasture buddies.
If anyone has any info about this, please let us know.
We are not planning on pressing charges or anything like that. We just want some information about which way he ran of to, as we are hoping to maybe find him somewhere ( hopefully alive).😢

Great 24hours pop down to blackbird , can’t believe I haven’t been here since March! Loved puttering about, painting and changing linens to sprrrringtime! ( yessss I kept all the quilts close by!! ) some of our summer projects for the garden were put on hold for this year, but a lick of bright paint sure makes a difference! Thank you to everyone who stepped in and kept the home fires burning. I sure appreciate you all. Xo blackbird

Rabbit rabbit, happy October everyone. We’ve had a lovely weekend getting blackbird all cozy for the new season. Cozy bedding, few little change ups.. so fun! We added a little library to our pass thru room. I found an amazing table that we repurposed, made a new top, and it’s such a cozy little room now! Art retreat at the blackbird. Such a wonderful idea, a weekend full of crafting, creating, mentoring and napping! also drinks and food… ( hello fresh scones.. also hello to rum and eggnogg.. it’s not to early is it? Nahhh…🎄)

And that’s a wrap! Blackbird paint project is done for 2022! Thank you to Mother Nature for giving us an extra monthhh of warm days. Thank you to Dean for his incredible talent and vision. Thank you to his crew for the time spent scraping and fi###xxing... To Mitchell and Loxly and Angel for giving us their weekends and letting Dean hang out and paint birds! The care you all took with this project was above what I could have ever dreamed . This is a transformation we won’t ever forget. And big thanks to the peeps of Crowsnest who have been so positive and supportive. That is why we all love it here so much! Here’s to a great snow season!
