PALAGRUŽA ISLAND

Palagruža is an island 42 nautical miles away from Komiža. It is the most remote Croatian island, located in the middle of the Adriatic sea, between the Italian and the Croatian coast. The lighthouse is located 90 m above sea level in the central part of the island, built in 1875, it is the largest lighthouse on the Adriatic.

Globe artichokes (Cynara scolymus), also known as French artichokes, are tall perennial plants that are native to the Mediterranean region.
They’re classified as an herbaceous perennial thistle and cultivated as a vegetable crop for their edible flower buds.
If the buds are left on the plants they open up into large beautiful purple flowers that are rich in nectar which is excellent for attracting bees and other beneficial insects to the vegetable garden.

The flowers grow on tall flower stalks that can reach 6 feet (2 metres) tall so they really stand out in the garden.
The thistle-like blooms can grow up to 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter and have bright, lavender blue centers.

It was back in 1766 that Jakob Krivic started making gingerbread in Radovljica. Today we visited the original atelier where Lectar gingerbread is still made following the same recipe. ❤️❤️❤️

Usually shaped in a form of a heart, it was traditionally used as a gift in order to express feelings towards another person. A young man in love would give it to his crush, hoping she wouldn't bite into it, as that was her saying to look elsewhere.💘

The historic town of Mostar, spanning a deep valley of the Neretva River, developed in the 15th and 16th centuries as an Ottoman frontier town and during the Austro-Hungarian period in the 19th and 20th centuries. Plavac Mali is an autochthonous Croatian red grape, one of the best known and respected wine varieties in Croatia.

Plavac Mali is a cross between the variety that the Croatians call Tribidrag – and the rest of the world calls it Zinfandel – and a less know variety, Dobričić.

The flavour is mostly described as rustic, with hints of dark berries, cherry, pepper and spice, and the wine has excellent aging capabilities, especially in the best years, when the wine is high quality to begin with.
