We are a retired Canadian couple with a yen for adventure and a quest for a no-winter climate in which to spend our retirement. Sounds straightforward and simple or so we thought, but life does throw curves, doesn't it? Ten years or so prior to our planned retirement, we went to Costa Rica on a vacation and fell in love with the country. Between that first visit and our adieu to the working life,
we visited Costa Rica multiple times and felt confident that we had found the tropical spot to enjoy our now completely free time. So we sold our house, drastically downsized our personal belongings, put the rest in storage, bid heartbreaking goodbyes to friends and family, and took off for Costa Rica with a plan to try it out for a few years. Two and a half years later, our confidence meter about Costa Rica being the place for us was down to about 10%. Back to Canada? Someplace else? We did not have an answer. Not knowing where to set up house and in the spirit of true procrastination, we decided to embark on a dreamt of but did not think possible journey of travel for a year. We are budget travelling, with a very basic plan before we leave and winging it as we go. This trip will take both of us way outside our comfort zones and most definitely push our boundaries.
