When it comes to how we like to travel, it’s less about rushing from one attraction to the next and more about connecting with a location, its history, and the people who know it best.

So during our trip to the NSW Central Coast we spent a day with We wandered through ancient Melaleuca forests, learned about Indigenous history, spotted the most vibrant coloured mushrooms, and visited ‘Red Hands Cave,’ where hand stencils remain as a testament to the area’s rich cultural past. It’s experiences like these that connect you to the heart of a place, giving you a deeper understanding and appreciation for it.

If you’re curious to explore more mindful travel, and you’re heading to the NSW Central Coast anytime soon, read the full story about our day out with Heritage Ventures, along with our top recommendations for other Cultural Tours on the NSW Central Coast. https://lifeunhurried.com/hawkesbury-nsw-central-coast-walking-tour/

Trade the rush for a rhythm that matches the tides. On the NSW coast, you’ll find towns that have barely changed in decades—where surfboards lean against beach shacks, fish and chips are eaten straight from the paper, and life feels a little more unhurried.

Swipe through to meet Wooli, Scotts Head, Sawtell, and other spots that seem to have pressed pause on time, each one a reminder that simplicity never goes out of style.

How to Have a Slow Weekend

When was the last time you truly slowed down? This weekend, we’re embracing being unhurried. Swipe through for a few of our tips on how to disconnect, relax, and reconnect with yourself, your surroundings, and your loved ones.

✨ Wake Up Without the Screen: Start your day screen-free and let the morning unfold naturally.

✨Allow Yourself Some Guilt-Free Rest: You don’t always need to be productive—give yourself permission to relax.

✨Reconnect with Nature, Rebalance Your Mind: Let the calming effect of nature reset your nervous system.

✨ Rediscover Simple Joys: Offline fun, like a board game marathon, brings everyone together for a little face-to-face connection.

✨ Cook with Patience and Pleasure: Slow down in the kitchen and savour each step of creating a meal from scratch.

This weekend, let’s hit pause and embrace the simple, meaningful moments.

One of the most enriching parts of slow travel is taking the time to immerse yourself in local culture, and at guests have the chance to do just that. In collaboration with Wiradjuri Knowledge Holder Shane Herrington, they’ve introduced the Barradyal Cultural Experience—an intimate, hands-on session that offers a deep dive into the traditions and stories of the Wiradjuri people.

From learning about stone tool technology and bush foods to experiencing the power of storytelling, this half-day experience is a unique opportunity to connect with the land and its history. Currently exclusive to Kestrel Nest guests, it’s one of the only First Nations cultural experiences set on a farm in NSW, making it truly special.

Say hello to 🤩

Tucked between the bush and the sea on the Mornington Peninsula, Hart’s Farm is a private adults-only escape on a 10-hectare family-run farm. Book the studio on its own or combined with the retreat to take advantage of the professional kitchen that has played host to cooking classes and private feasts. Drop into the farm gate for a naturally fermented cider and olive oil tasting – both grown and created mere steps from your door – and cook up something delicious to enjoy at the recycled timber dining table. Fed by rainwater and run off-grid the majority of time thanks to solar and a waste management system, this sustainable farm stay is as luxurious as it is peaceful. Dive into the extensive collection of magazines and books as the fire roars. Outside, kangaroos and parrots add to the bucolic scene, where olive trees and vines tumble down the hillside. Wake to a fresh bounty of local produce – think homemade muesli, local bread, and perhaps some raspberries or figs plucked from the farm itself.
