My fellow Cathedral guides are going to start giving the historical tours of Notre Dame again from outside in anticipation of the reopening in 2024.💗🙏

A short translation is every Saturday & Sunday this summer, tours will be given free along the outside of the Cathedral, the tours are by official CASA guides (of which I am one), learn the history of Ile de la Cite and the Cathedral, meet at the foot of the statue of the Virgin on the parvis at 2:30 pm.

😍😍😍FAIR WARNING: This will suck up your entire day—but you'll love it. The city of Paris has created a database of historic photos of the city by address, mapped out for your viewing (and comparing) enjoyment. What's changed? What's stayed the same? Talented Lucas Destrem has come up with an original Paris metro map to support culture, by replacing classic metro stations by museums, theaters, concert venues, movie theaters, and other libraires we all miss. A wonderful initiative!

A fun look at life in a French Chateau that is just the tip of that world

This is the extraordinary view that I awoke to at the chateau. Lalande was bathed the most extraordinary orangey-pink hue, and it wasn’t just confined to the sky - every object seemed to be reflecting the same warm tinge.
I was amazed to discover that it wasn’t just a trick of the light. A huge storm in the Sahara swept the desert dust over Spain and Portugal, and even as far as us in the heart of France! When I went outside, I discovered that everything was covered in fine red sand. I’ve never seen anything like it.
It was a powerful reminder that nothing that occurs on this planet happens in isolation, we are all affected by events taking place thousands of miles away 🧡

the history of Paris, always fascinating

What is left of the Templars today? Not much. The once impressive fortress was turned into a prison during the Revolution. Napoleon, in attempt to avoid it becoming a place of pilgrimage had it torn down Napoleon III finished off the job. Now they remain in street names ‘rue du Temple’ or the metro stop Temple. At the Mairie of the 3rd where the keep once was you can find a small plaque and some discreet markings On the floor but sadly that is all…..

When the world wide web entered our homes in the mid 90s, the French must have been feeling a distinct sense of dejá vu. After all, anyone in France with a telephone had been online an entire decade before the internet came along. From 1978 to 2012, there was Minitel, one of the most successful pre...
