TIPS FOR WINTER TRAVEL
There are so many advantages to traveling during winter! Keep in mind these tips so you can be sure to have a great winter trip.
❄️ Expect Delays and Plan For Them: Let’s face it, weather can disrupt travel schedules. Mother nature does not care about your plans! Get travel insurance, think about what you might do if something gets canceled due to weather, and know what you’d need to do in case of a total airline meltdown like Southwest in 2022.
❄️ Check Weather Conditions: Before your trip, stay updated on weather forecasts for your destination and along your route. Know if you need to be prepared for snow, icy roads, and potential delays.
❄️ Pack What You’ll Need: Winter is different in different places - are you going to a knee-high snow boots and parka winter place, or are your Uggs going to be fine? Know how to layer your clothing and bring what you’ll need. Pack extras of some things in case they get wet or there are delays in your trip.
❄️ Stay Safe on the Road: If you’re driving, equip your vehicle with winter tires or snow chains. Carry emergency supplies such as blankets, a flashlight, snacks, water that isn’t frozen, and a powerbank for your phone. If you’re in a mountain location like Tahoe or Colorado, ask advice from locals before you set off on that windy pass no matter what the weather report says.

Growing up I didn't know many people that traveled.
Travel was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. You saved for decades to go on your honeymoon to Hawaii. Stuff like that.
As a young adult I realized that wasn't quite true. I chose a college degree that happened to include traveling by road trip to field work around the USA. I realized on these trips I loved the travel more than the work.
I posted on my personal social media a lot and got lots of people I knew interested in my photos and musings about travel. Friends, family, and acquaintances told me they loved seeing my posts.
After I graduated and got my "big girl job," I wasn’t going on field work assignments anymore but was determined to continue traveling. I was part of some Facebook groups about travel and saw examples of young women going places without it costing so much. They just took off in their cars with their tents and went! Hey, I knew how to do that!
As soon as I had time off work I planned a trip and went on it, driving familiar routes to familiar places but this time all on my own. Not long after that I boldly went farther than ever before, to all new places, and it wasn't long from there that I was on planes to other countries.
It most definitely hasn’t all been easy. At times I’ve been terrified, and other times I considered canceling the entire thing and staying home instead. That’s been my reality of prioritizing travel and being able to see the world with high end tastes on a low end budget. I’ve tried to portray that reality in my content about my trips and it’s been well received.

Is anyone else like this 😅
I like it best if I can actually see my gate from the restaurant. Would hate for it to just disappear or something if I wasn't watching! 🤣
