Just ten minutes off the principle highway through Peru to La Paz Bolivia is the magnificent Tinajani Canyon.

Wind and rain continue to sculpt the broad and beautiful landscapes of Tinajani. Stretching over 250 hectares, the canyon features a collection of anthropomorphic stone figures, with long ravines and small rivers throughout the area. Tinajani also contains tombs from ancient pre-Inca cultures that once lived in the Altiplano (high plains)

Queso Serrano, Mountain Cheese, is a homemade cow-milk delicacy. The Altiplano Puno is the milk-product capital of Peru. Look for speedbumps! Where entrepreneurial spirits will be selling a bite (people) or waiting for tossings (puppies).

*Disclaimer: my friend Jorge of Granja Rosario cheeses says these cheeses are unnamed, can be anything, usually unpasteurized, and should be eaten at own risk.
