With an applied art background and being an avid traveler, I was exposed to the age ol

d tradition of India at an early age. I realized what can be done with different cultures and the world of possibilities that can be opened to our native craftspeople if given the opportunity, the direction and the freedom to flourish. Having worked with Sakshi Gallery and being exposed to the contemporary art world I was keen on creating a fusion of traditional & contemporary art. I started Art Keeda flagship store in December 2010 and plan to have a chain of retail outlets in Mumbai and major cities in India. Our Artists

Raphael, the “Prince of painters” continues to instruct and inspire artists the world over. Considered one of the 3 masters who have come to embody the High Rennaissance, it has been said that “what Leonardo achieved by sheer intellect and Michelangelo through passionate intuition, Raphael acquired by persistent study and assimilation.”

He painted for Kings and Popes; his painting "The School of Athens" in the Vatican is is one of the most famous artworks in the world. Please join us in wishing a happy birthday to the painter-Prince, Raphael!

Widely known as “Alagila” in India, Fresco is an ancient Roman technique which dates back to around 1500 BC. In Rajasthan it is popular as Jaipur Fresco or Lustro. Worldwide it's commonly known as Fresco Buon.
Fresco Buon or true fresco is the most durable technique and is done on wet plaster. The natural chemical reaction gives the pigments great permanence and resistance to aging since they are an integral part of the wall surface, rather than a superimposed layer of paint on it.
Fresco Secco another widely used technique, is done on dry plaster. The pigment is applied using a binder, hence it is also called as Tempera. In this the paint forms a layer on the surface and therefore it is not so permanent as Fresco Buon.
A third type of common fresco technique is the Italian Fresco. In the 7th century the process of smoothening the surface before painting was discontinued by a few artist. Instead a rough texture was achieved, giving it a matte finish.
In Europe and India one can see these works which date back to the AD and BC years. Some famous ones being the ceiling at the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo, the Ajanta Ellora caves in Aurangabad and the Royal Palaces in Rajasthan.

The North Indian summer can be distinctly Wild Western. Blistering winds howl across parched plains and cracked earth. In the cities, tar melts on the roads, and the streets are clear of people. Most families who can, flee to the hills to escape the unrelenting sun. My family—my mother, sister and I…

Sachin Puthran was there when it all happened. “It was 1995; the time of hand-drawn illustrations, airbrushed finished images and cut-paste typesetting. Digital was slowly coming in, bringing with it a generation gap. There was an air of fear in the older Art Directors as the younger generation, fascinated by Mac user interface, was already learning software. He takes us on the journey of an Artist, from then to now in Mar/Apr 2014 issue.
